>that guy who went to a good school like the university of Texas only to study English
Why on Earth do students pay so much money only to drift through four years of a degree -- Is hippy pussy really that good?

>be me
>attend mediocre commuter school after community college, study CS
>read and write during every free waking moment, which is pretty often because the school's not too rigorous and it's just undergrad
>after school quickly find a comfy job desk job
>over time publish a couple short stories at small internet zines and journals, many of which I worked on at my job
>finally, miraculously get one in at a fairly prestigious magazine
>one day check up on my friend from high school who studied literature at Georgetown
>he's working two part time jobs just to stay alive
>he hasn't published anything beyond one poem in some undergrad journal during his student days
>hoping to get a teaching certificate so he can have the privilege of spending 8 hours a day with teenagers
>still hasn't paid off his student loans
>meanwhile I get paid to shitpost on /lit/ and listen to E. L. Doctorow audiobooks

I knew a guy who went to MIT to study civil engineering. Just seems like such a waste.

I'm still bitter about going to a cruddy school after all these years.

That was me, four years ago walking from UT with an English degree. People like the chair were fucking mummy but the women there were un...beat...able. (Because they all carried guns.) Jokes aside it was ass soup. I lived it. Not to mention the pleasure of being a senior there... knowing that Borges taught there.... and suddenly reading the first sentence in his story "There Are More Things."
No redneck Aggie experience could ever compare. All they do there is smell the asses of the Bush family anyway.
