Hey guys! What are your favorite books? I got a Kindle as a birthday present, but I have no idea what to get.

give us an idea of what you like

Well, I really enjoyed Brave New World, The October Country, and 100 Years of Solitude in recent years, but I'm open to anything, really.

Was that adapted into a movie? I think I saw it if it has. I might get that. I enjoyed the movie.

If you like "One Hundred Years of Solitude" then I'd recommend you read "The Autumn of the Patriarch". That is my second favorite Marquez novel; the subject matter is totally different but the beautiful prose of Marquez is there by the truckload. Seriously, I can't recommend it enough, though I'm quite sad that I've never seen it mentioned on /lit/.

Yeah, that's the one - the novel is roughly 100 times more enjoyable than the movie imo.

As you might guess, I'm quite a big fan of things often termed 'magical realism'. If you're into this kind of thing too, I'd recommend you also check out:
"Nights at the Circus" by Angela Carter
"Midnight's Children" by Salman Rushdie
"Venus as a Boy" by Luke Sutherland
"Chocolat" by Joanne Harris

That last one is, I would say, a slightly more aquired taste than the others, but it's still pretty good if you're a fan of magical realism.

Some decent free ebooks on there.

Alright, thanks a lot. I'll be sure to look into each book you suggested.

The Metamorphosis and The Stranger are both fantastic (The Stranger moreso if you ask me) and you can read both of them in a day.

That's the problem with the Kindle. There's not a lot of good books for it. If you look at the stuff on the best-sellers list right now, for example, they're not available for the Kindle.

"The Red Room" and "Inferno" by August Strindberg are great books; early Naturalist works, seaguing into proto-Expressionist mindfucks. Plus, they're usually completely free. Most early translations are shit, though.
