Just finished Darkly Dreaming Dexter. What does /lit/ think of it?

>> No.1165521

It's a good read.

>> No.1165520

The premise is cool and I love the show, but the books are not particularly well written.

for the love of all that is sacred and holy, do not read the third onwards!

Also, they're all a bit far fetched and silly and i only read them because of the television series

5th one, Jeff Lindsay thinks goths, not just goths, but cannibalistic predators would wear Team Edward shirts

I thought it was an imitation of Death Note upon reading, and afterwards I've tried to convince myself it isn't, but the evidence keeps pointing towards it.

THis is now a deathnote thread

in my opinion the inner monologues on the show are better than in the books

Nigga, you fuckin' stupid.

What? Both are stories told from the perspective of a serial killer who kills with an perverted sense of justice, and works with the police that are assigned to track him down. Not to mention Darkly Dreaming Dexter came out not long after Death Note did. My theory isn't totally without merit. The only thing In Death Note missing from Dexter is the stupid supernatural stuff.

Yeah, Light does, but Dexter realises that even though he kills other killers he is still a sick monster. Light really thinks hes the fucking shit.

Is it? Well, shit. See? It keeps adding up.
Not sure if serious

The first edition of Darkly Dreaming Dexter seems to be January 1st, 2004. Death Note seems to have began its serialisation on December 2003. The odds on Dexter being an imitation aren't good.

Oh seriously? Never mind, I thought DDD was like 2005 or something.

well to be fair, there were literal gods in the story.

Book Dexter is a lot more awkward instead of witty than TV Dexter. Currently reading Dexter is Delicious, though. :)

Yeah, it's 2004. Upon further investigation I think it was July 20th, not Jan 1st, but even then the odds are very slim I'd say.

This. They play up the unemotional stumbling-through-life weirdo aspect a lot more in the books, which I find more entertaining. Not exactly high brow lit, but they are fun quick reads.

I didn't really care for "Darkly Dreaming Dexter"(and fuck these damn alliterative titles for preventing me from abbreviating), but I thought that the sequel, "Dearly Devoted Dexter" was amazing, to a point where I actually preferred it to the second season of the show.

>> No.1166570

I though the books was pretty good. I was surprised at the ending when Brain killed LaGaurta and then ran off. Also Debra knows Dexter is a sick fuck.
I liked who they made the Dark Passenger an actual person and Dexter was powered the moon.
