Was just hoping for some book suggestions in the vein of Coin Locker Babies, Cows, The Consumer, etc. Sorry preemptively if you think i have bad taste, you're probably right. Thanks!

>> No.11689568

are Coin Locker Babies, Cows or The Consumer any good?

I have this chart that might be of interest to you, OP. I can recommend A Modest Proposal (Very short, morbid and surprisingly funny) and I would suggest you check out Ryu Murakami because his writing is very unsettling.

Titus Andronicus is great too but you might not be wanting Shakespeare to deliver your edgy-lit.

I dunno, I think they’re all great, but I have no idea what the general consensus is here. Thanks for the chart and suggestions, this is perfect! I’m a big fan of Ryu Murikami, besides coin lockers I’ve read piercing and almost transparent blue. I thought both were good but coin lockers was easily the most bizarre of the bunch, I think the prose was a little trimmed down in some of the other titles translations as well but that’s just stylistic speculation on my part, maybe I have it backwards.

Oh cool, Marbled Swarm is familiar, i’ll have to check that out!

Oh well, What didn’t you like about the writing? I enjoyed the prose and darker bizarro content. Any books in a similar vein you would consider superior?

No one is gonna read that self-published trash stop posting it everywhere baka

Also The Consumer is fucking awful lol. First story is like "I stood in my living room jacking it while eating raw meat for 3 days straight until my sister returned from the mental hospital"

Almost anything else on that list. I’d recommend the Celine, Steps or Last Exit to Brooklyn. Story of the Eye is supposed to be good too.

One of the few actually good erotic writers. Important proto-Foucault thinker. Rare form of truly transgressive surrealism and for that matter one of the only surrealists that still matters.

Good to see your love for Ryu Murakami OP. If you want more outre Japanese fiction then The Apprenticeship of Big Toe P is worth a shot: it’s about a girl with a penis for a toe who joins a freak circus.

Two of the most well done and transgressive extreme books I recall reading would have to be Blood Meridian by McCarthy (about scaplers in the Wild West) and Off Season by Jack Ketchum (a gory cannibal story).

Other mentions:

Exquisite Corpse is as blood filled as a book can get but personally it took me a while to finish due to the extensive amount of gay sex scenes.

Richard Laymon as a constant appears to always include gratuitous amounts of rape and violence as well as casual racism in his novels but his works definitely have a low brow pulp feel to them.

Segments of Gravity’s Rainbow and V. by Thomas Pynchon can be pretty gnarley as well.

In my opinion, contrary to popular belief Marquis De Sade is a bore.

Also wtf I just realised that Naked Lunch isn’t in that guide to Disturbing Literature. That also comes recommended as it features all things grotesque plus the kitchen sink. Like it’s notorious for that. The way the book was crafted is just as interesting as the work itself.

I was actually surprised by that too, that was one of the first books to really get me interested in seeing what else was out there. I really enjoyed it but decided not to bring it up, thought it might be considered "basic" or whatever. Babbys first "fucked up" book.

I just thought he was trying too hard with his prose. That and the atmosphere felt forced - i guess I kinda prefer a build-up.

Ive not really read much transgressive lit dude. Selby Jr, Burroughs, Ligotti, Ballard, Bataille, Welsh (although he "homages" Selby Jr too much..) and the Wasp Factory.

Interesting, thanks for taking the time to type a response out, I haven't heard much in-depth discussion on it one way or another, mostly just "it's good" or "it's shit".
