George R. R. Martin is a better author (yes; AUTHOR), than Tolkien.

Prove me otherwise.

GRRM is better for the porn-addled, anime watching, degenerate crowd. Tolkien is better for the mentally healthy, well-adjusted, chad crowd.

George is a fat fucking pedo and Tolkien was a legit turboautist who made his own language. This really isn't a debate

I mean turboautist with the highest respect. He was 100% honed in on doing exactly one thing and crushed it.

Is there anything comfier than the first couple of chapters of the hobbit? I could read an entire book about Bilbo just fucking around in the shire and smoking his pipe.

i give tolkien a significant edge as martin's whole work is inherently derivative as it's an explicit reaction to and subversion of tolkien.

The hobbits' journey from the Shire to Bree is probably my favourite part of the Lord of the Rings. It's so wholesome in a way, even with the Barrow-Downs which is arguably the spookiest moment in the book.

I'd give that honor to the Scouring of the Shire myself - but I like all the more lighthearted hobbit stuff, right at the beginning of the story and the end of it, for some reason.
