Is there any books that recounted the experience of young people who have lived through the Beatnik era? I am looking for everything, from memoirs to sociology researchs to photobooks (if it is related to industrial design and architecture). Both the aesthetics and the attitude of that era interested me greatly, and I have always wondered how were they being absorbed and/or rejected by the hippies.

The Electric Cool Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe is about the transition to hippiedom, though I haven't read it.
