I took a contemporary Novel class where the professor mostly had the syllabus picked out but let us vote on one text. When she asked for nominations I recommended Blood Meridian. It only got one vote, mine. A book by some Hindu woman won with 17 votes.

On the bright side the prof did select Dispatches, The Crying of Lot 49 and White Noise

I actually got into an argument with a professor in my required into to philosophy on the first day of class. I studied philosophy before I got into real academic subjects like biology so I was pretty well versed in their particular brand of charlatanism, so when the professor started going over the arguments for the existence of God I couldn't hold back. I adopted the ontological argument to prove that pigs can fly and he had no real argument against me. He had to resort to modal logic to argue against me because philosophy is retarded. He asked me to leave for heckling but I got excused by the dean from having to to take the class again so it was a win win.

When I took political science at my community college, my professor was a fat Jew who married a black woman (and talked about it, no shit, as one of his efforts to be less racist). He then told us about how he was racist for fighting to have his half-black child go to the high school that was physically farther away from their house in order for her to get a better education.

Then, the day after some cop shot some black kid on the news, he went on a tirade for about 30 minutes on how Republicans and police are racist, touching on pretty much every shooting of that type that had been in the news, and referred to the Mexican shooter of Trayvon Martin as a 'privileged white asshole' (I'm not joking). This culminated in him literally crying, saying that he knows for a fact Mike Brown was "murdered with intent" by the officer that shot him because "he was shot in the back running away".

Now at this time I was going through my libertarian phase and took this guy despite vaguely knowing who he was because I took a humanities course with a professor that was a friend of his, and he was an awesome dude that would entertain and take part in lively debate about the readings he assigned (The only person on my side at the time was some colossal former Marine that held a flag for Reagan's funeral or something and would constantly refer to what he watched in the documentary Zeitgeist, especially when another classmate, some 40-something year old woman, would relate her stories about being friends with a victim of [9/11, Sandy Hook, Apartheid, etc etc...]). Regardless the professor was awesome, and though he almost always disagreed with me we would talk through the subjects at length and he respected my positions and arguments against others'. Once he even brought a former student to talk at length about the themes of the Brothers Karamazov, which at the time I hadn't read.

There was a discussion in class, mostly English major Juniors in my private university, about quality and accessibility in literature. I was defending that we should cultivate standards, and though they shouldn't ever be enforced as universal standards or objective truth, developing and defending our own aesthetic standards leads to much more personal flourishing and the creation of better art and thought than vague consumer-populist "there's a flavor for everybody and that's okay" bullshit. It seemed like a portion of the class was following my line of thought and considering it, but then some bitch, probably deliberately misunderstanding me or not listening to what I was saying, said:

"I just don't think books need to be hard to read to be good."

So I said very loud and like a sperg "That is not what I'm saying, that is not what I'm saying! I am saying The Little Prince is a great book and Harry Potter is bullshit!" and then I lost the whole class and some of those people gave me dirty looks for weeks afterwards.

I'm proud of it idc

Anything in any story or essay we read would set her off and she'd be off the rest of the class.

>I bring up Infinite Jest in literally every single discussion, even if it has nothing to do with it
>instructor tells me how Infinite Jest is a contemporary work that might be forgotten in the next 10 years, not worthy of comparison to the classics, and beyond the scope of this class
>actual animosity builds between instructor and i
>sometimes in the middle of discussion while she's talking, i'll take my copy of Infinite Jest out of my backpack and loudly smack it onto my desk, making the entire class jump and look at me. This caused the professor to KNOW I'm about to ask a question relating her monologue to Infinite Jest, and you can feel her shifting her monologue mid-sentence to steer away from as much possible Infinite Jest-related things as she could. That simple smack was a real mind fuck. The rest of the class was glaring at me.
>one day I did this and a former US Marine sitting next to me literally grabbed my copy of Infinite Jest and threw it out the window. We were on like the 4th floor and it was raining outside.
>the class applauded loudly
>then SMACK! i had another copy of Infinite Jest in my backpack. I was SO proud of this, and trying so hard to hold back my shit-eating grin but I couldn't contain it. I looked beyond autistic.
>"Get out!" the instructor yelled. Thinking everyone would laugh, I was scared at her response, and the Marine took my backpack and book and placed it in the hallway and held the door for me to leave
>i ended up dropping the class

I had to take an ethics course as part of my degree and got stuck with some simpering limey cocksucker as my professor. For some reason he always looked like he'd just come from the sauna, red face and perpetually damp clothes. The dumbest topic he brought up was incest; he had asserted that if two hypothetical siblings had a loving and nurturing relationship, but just so happened to get drunk once and have a good fuck, that we shouldn't judge them negatively because the experience was consensual and could lead to a deeper love and mutual respect between the two. At the time I was younger and more naive, and didn't really know what to say to something like this. I almost went for the birth defects argument but thought against it because prophylactics exist, so instead I basically just said that an interaction like that ruins the ability of each of the siblings to meaningfully pair-bond with other people, because it's impossible for someone outside of their relationship to mimic their emotional responses and achieve the same depth they have with each other. It wasnt the most coherent argument, I know, but I didn't know what to do when confronted by something this insidious in the classroom.

To be honest I'm in political science in a hyper leftist university and city, and I've had to deal with next to no SJW bullshit. Even this semester, I signed up for a course called "international violence and its containment". Well, apparently there was a fuck up, because the first lecture was the prof explaining how the class is actually about race and media. It was the only class that fit my hectic schedule so I had to keep it, but it's been completely fine. The prof has explicitly said it's valid to look at race as something biological even though perceptions are heavily influenced by socialization. We had to write a little paper on white privilege and I know a dude who wrote that it didn't exist, and he got a pretty good grade.
In terms of people, I just don't hang out with SJWs, it's pretty easy. You can always tell if someone is going to be one by the way they speak and hold their shoulders, so I don't go out of my to make friends with them. Most of my friends are pretty socially and politically conservative. People complaining about the SJW apocalypse are just a bunch of hysterical losers with nothing going on. I hang out in a physics major social club type of thing and a couple weeks ago me and my friends were having dinner on Friday night with some second years from the club.
One of my friends was trying to remember the story about Sartre doing mescaline and then seeing crabs follow him around for years. He remembered it was some philosopher, and he doesn't read so he didn't know who, and these three second year guys are in a fucking intro to philosophy class and they seize the opportunity to just pop off every name they can think of starting from fucking Descartes (which they mispronounce). My friend goes, "No, I think it was like a modern guy, like French," and they settle on Sartre and he says yeah I think so and then they laugh at him for not calling Sartre postmodern. Then they spent the rest of the meal talking about the Myth of Sisyphus while I quietly seethed. They genuinely delighted in the assumption that nobody knew the super deep philosophical concepts of fucking Camus.
I didn't say anything because I didn't want to seem like even more of a pompous ass and because they're just 19 year old pseuds that wouldn't take it to heart anyway. I did make sure to take my friend aside after and tell him they were pricks and that he was right in the first place, though.

A liberal muslim homosexual ACLU lawyer professor and abortion doctor was teaching a class on Karl Marx, a known atheist

”Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Marx and accept that he was the most highly-evolved being the world has ever known, even greater than Jesus Christ!”

At this moment, a brave, patriotic, pro-life Navy SEAL champion who had served 1500 tours of duty and understood the necessity of war and fully supported all military decision made by the United States stood up and held up a rock.

”How old is this rock, pinhead?”

The arrogant professor smirked, quite Jewishly, and smugly replied “4.6 billion years, you stupid Christian”

”Wrong. It’s been 5,000 years since God created it. If it was 4.6 billion years old and evolution, as you say, is real… then it should be an animal now”

The professor was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of Origin of the Species. He stormed out of the room crying those liberal crocodile tears. The same tears liberals cry for the “poor” (who today live in such luxury that most own refrigerators) when they jealously try to claw justly earned wealth from the deserving job creators. There is no doubt that at this point our professor, DeShawn Washington, wished he had pulled himself up by his bootstraps and become more than a sophist liberal professor. He wished so much that he had a gun to shoot himself from embarrassment, but he himself had petitioned against them!

The students applauded and all registered Republican that day and accepted Jesus as their lord and savior. An eagle named “Small Government” flew into the room and perched atop the American Flag and shed a tear on the chalk. The pledge of allegiance was read several times, and God himself showed up and enacted a flat tax rate across the country.

The professor lost his tenure and was fired the next day. He died of the gay plague AIDS and was tossed into the lake of fire for all eternity.

Why would you need a whole pasta to critique something as trivial as Harry Potter? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though

"No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

A god-fearing natural law theorist professor and lawyer for a conservative think tank was teaching a class on Aquinas, known crypto-theist. "Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship the LORD Jesus Christ and accept that Saint Thomas Aquinas was the finest legal mind ever."

At this moment, a suave, cool, turtle-neck-draped critical legal theorist with a beret and a rockin' beard who had written over 1500 papers on the sociological foundations of legal systems and their relation to inherent power structures in society spoke:

"If God is the one who establishes the correctness of law, then who elected God? I didn't vote for him."

The arrogant lawyer smirked quite conservatively and smugly replied, “You don't vote for god, you godless communist."

"Then your God doesn't derive his sovereignty from the will of the governed, and is thus a tyrannical dictator, meaning according your own creation myth, Lucifer was correct to rebel and overthrow him. QED, we should all worship Satan."

The lawyer was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of the Summa Theologica. He stormed out of the room crying those theist crocodile tears. The same tears conservatives cry for the regressive and bigoted laws that are used to instill false consciousness in the working classes.

There is no doubt that at this point our lawyer was so shaken in his faith that he realized he spent his life chasing a fairy tale when he could have been out there dismantling the patriarchal systems of oppression that continue to empower religious and political institutions that have outlived their benefit to mankind.

The students applauded and all went out and bought every book ever written by a member of the Frankfurt School and joined the Communist Party. An eagle named "Zionist Conspiracy to Undermine the Western Nuclear Family" flew into the room and perched atop the portrait of Theodor Adorno and shed a tear on the chalk. MacKinnon's "Feminism Unmodified" was read several times, and every student decided that day to be gender-non-conforming as a radical way to tear down the structures of oppression present in the university setting.

The lawyer was promptly disbarred for being illogical and a theist, and was forced to live out his days ekeing out a living making the conservative talk radio circuit and selling books about how homosexuals and Muslims were in an alliance with lizards from Mars to kill all the white men.

It's not a democracy, though, to avoid tyrannical mob rule. 2.5% seems fair when you understand the complexities of voter turnout. The presidential election is a big spectacle, but each state has its own set of things to vote for, many often having much stronger impacts on the daily lives of the people living in those states. More people turning out to vote in Democrat powerhouses like CA or NYC mean a lot more Democrat votes overall, but it does not mean that that is actually reflective of the underlying national consensus.

An organ-sensation despising psychoanalysis professor and mind-body dualist was teaching a class on Sigmund Freud, a known cocaine addict. "Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship the topological and structural models of the human psyche and accept that Sigmund Freud was the finest psychological mind ever."

At this moment, a Chad-like, long-haired, unkempt orgonomist with no shoes and a flower behind his ear who had written over 1500 papers on psychiatric orgonomy, social orgonomy, orgone physics and sex-economy spoke:

"If repeated, complete genital gratification resolves neuroses, why do psychoanalysts believe in the necessity of repression in society?

The arrogant professor smirked, quite Jewishly, and smugly replied "Das es is a monster that must be restrained for the greater good. Identify with the father and become well-adjusted to society, you stupid Reichian."

"Wrong. Destructive and sadistic drives are secondary, arising from socio-parental oppression of the plasmatic pulsation of biological life. If repression, as you say, necessary, then the expression of psychic content can have no clinical value."

Our professor was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of Civilization and its Discontents. He stormed out of the room crying those psychoanalytic crocodile tears. The same tears established psychiatrists cry when their entire discipline is invalidated. There is no doubt that at this point our professor was so shaken in his faith that he realized he spent his life chasing a fairy tale when he could have been out there dismantling the life-negating systems of compulsory sex-morality that continue to empower the social institutions which thwart the love between adolescents.

The students applauded and all went out and bought every book ever written by Wilhelm Reich, Alexander Lowen and Ellsworth Baker and subscribed to the Journal of Psychiatric Orgone Therapy. An eagle named "Genitality" flew into the room and perched atop the orgone accumulator and shed a tear on the chalk. Reich's "The Function of the Orgasm" was read several times, and every student decided that day to resolve their psychosomatic complexes as a radical way to tear down the structures of oppression present in the historic family.

The professor lost his tenure and was fired the next day. He died of cancer caused by the stagnation of orgone energy.

Love, work, and knowledge are the well-springs of our life. They should also govern it.

Everyone at my school has to take a babby-level political science class. I put mine off until junior year, so in the bi-weekly "discussion session" I was surrounded by freshmen working themselves into hysterics over whatever Drumpf had done that day (this was immediately during/after the election).
Our TA was this cool Ukrainian grad student who was just trying to teach, but there were a handful of people (3 or 4, all tumblr stereotype thots and one flamer) who would just yell over him whenever he was trying to speak (keep in mind, most of the course was about the founding fathers and revolutionary war shit). No matter what we'd be "discussing" they'd just tangentially relate it to Trump. This included standing on desks, calling people fascists when they told them to settle down, and showing people laughably bad photoshops of Trump wearing KKK uniforms. Eventually the TA would just sit at his desk and let them preach.
He wrote a little note on my final essay thanking me for being "civil" and I felt really bad for him.

I disagree. The reason why minority or otherwise oppressed groups (there are more women than men worldwide) are having so much emphasis placed on their voices is because they have never been appreciated by as wide an audience as they are today.

Basically, the logic is the same as affirmative action: technically you’re discriminating against other groups (usually heterosexual Caucasian men), but this is only to lessen the amount of bias against oppressed groups, and to give them a chance to catch up. You can’t expect those who have been enslaved, discriminated against, and forced into poverty, crime, isolation, and/or pushed into low self-esteem to be able to perform as well as their unoppressed counterparts.

for a shitty anthropology course I am required to take I had to speak about "public anthropology" with a group of students, with the discussion led by the TAs. Public anthropology is a movement within the field focusing on being politically conscious and extending ideas of democracy and social justice into areas in which you work.
After everyone sang its praises, the TAs asked if anyone disapproved of it at all, to which I said that the spread of western-defined "human rights" and democracy can and has been used to justify state post-colonialism, and the public anthropologist's goal is uncomfortably similar to colonial power relations.

People aren’t just printing mediocre shit because the author is black or brown or Jewish; white people have made plenty of mediocre and purely awful media. There are many voices in the voiceless that sing beautifully, and to deny them chords is criminal, even if we can’t relate to their experiences personally (which could be another explanation as to why you might feel this way; you simply can’t relate, nor can I). But that wouldn't happen if you just assessed things on merit. It doesn't even have to be that the stuff getting published is absolute dogshit, but people's attitudes would generally be better if the best of the best across the board was getting published, and we didn't have stuff like literary journals apologizing because they liked and published a poem and then people complained the author was white and they should try to publish more non-whites in the future.
>A Mark will almost always find a place, but a DeMarcus might not.
DeMarcus should probably work on his writing. The alternative to what you're suggesting isn't just some opposite situation where reviewers are going, "What the... a negro? Claire, please shred this for me, sweetie."

I am so fucking tired of this from supposed academics. Why is that the black mark someone's thought forever, out of all the possible ideologies and political views that have existed throughout history? I have more of a problem with Sartre being a pedo and a tankie than I do with Heidegger being a Nazi, but I think that both their works should be taught without any question.

>and/or pushed into low self-esteem
This is a meme. Blacks have the highest self-esteem out of any race in the USA.

A black woman tells her husband that he must see a doctor. After much hectoring, he finally agrees. When he comes home from his appointment he has a spring in his step, a glint in his eye, and a smile on his face. His wife asks him what he learnt at the doctor's office that made him so happy.

The interpretation of language is the important part, not the words themselves. So basically in an environment where it's known to be used humorously using words like that is fine but in a serious/unfamiliar environment using them is just being autistic.

Asia iirc comes from the greek name for western anatolia, and Europe would probably be what they considered neither Asia (to the east of the Aegean) or Africa (south across the med, named after Kingdom of Africa I think?), I'd guess.
Probably getting some shit wrong though

In my experience, most science is garbage until you get into higher-level stuff.
Every Chad says "oh yeah man I'm pre-med" and is one of like 600 people enrolled in Intro to General Chem pt 1, so you can hardly blame them for having a low bullshit tolerance.
What makes me mad is that they intentionally make those classes unfairly difficult to weed out as many posers as they can and can wreck your GPA early even if you're good enough to stick with it. When I took organic chem, one prof completely altered the format of the tests and only announced it the day of- the average was a 40-something and his response was "fuck you, you're not getting a curve"

In my first class after the election we were in the middle of A Visit From the Goon Squad and the chapter we were on had recurring references to Bill Clinton having just been elected. Accidentally cheeky. No one said anything, though.
