Thoughts on the books people decided to put on this shelf?

>> No.12390469

Why would someone hate Confederacy of Dunces

>> No.12390471

They are correct on all counts.

>> No.12390479

>> No.12390530

>Infinite Jest
I can understand, it really only appeals to a certain type of people
>A Confederacy of Dunces
why???
>Light in August
why???
>Fountainhead
Nobody likes Ayn Rand
>Great Expectations
Really? is it because its written by an old white guy?
>Great Gatsby
Its a meh book
>Emma
This one confuses me the most.
>Ulysses
Understandable, its a tough read and goes over most people's heads

>> No.12390536

Mostly books people are likely to be talked into reading by others rather than naturally coming into them through their own reading habits. Makes sense

>> No.12390553

>>12390463
the variation of books on there doesn't really imply a consistent hatred

>> No.12390571

>>12390463
How could anyone hate Confederacy of Dunces?

>> No.12390572

Who hates Gatsby?
It doesn't really do enough to earn hatred. At most you can say it's boring but what else?

>> No.12390576

>>12390572
Teenagers are often forced to read it in school, that is usually the source of their hate

>> No.12390606

I would hate to work or shop at that store, what the fuck kind of people work there

>> No.12390637

The Lovely Bones is the most puzzling. I can understand /lit/ hating this book if it were more popular, but for normies who run a book store this seems like a weird choice. I don't particuarly like it but something like 'Eat Pray Love' is far worse in this type of genre. Maybe they just don't like how pessimistic it is.

>> No.12390671

Of all of Austen's works, imagine picking Emma to hate on.

Agreed. It's his worst book, actually I'm getting tired of him. I really enjoyed his first four books, the rest are the same shit with the same smell.

>> No.12390730

>No Quran
Shit.

I liked IJ, way more than Ulysses.

>> No.12390744

>>12390571
I can see someone reading it and thinking it's just some dumb comedy book on surface level

>> No.12390749

That edition of Ulysses took a lot of liberties in its editing choices. I would only put it up there for that reason, but I wouldn't want to mislead customers into thinking that Ulysses is a trash book.
I really want to meet the person who didn't like Confederacy of Dunces. I have so many questions.

>> No.12390759

Emma is Austen's best book though
