what are some god tier books about psychology for a beginner

>> No.12484890

Unironically a textbook

I havn't read Kahneman's 'thinking, fast and slow' (though I did cite it one time) but it could be a good entry point into cognitive psyc

I enjoyed 'obedience to authority' by Milgram

Unironically Modern Man in Search of Soul by Jung is great. I know Jung has been thrown into the trashcan because of Wash-Your-Lobster Man, but Jung does have a lot of stuff that is pretty great. Freud even has some good work despite being the Ur Jew.

I especially reccomend the sage handbook of counselling Psychology.

Colin is a pretty alright dude, and I've had the pleasure of learning from him myself.

In search of meaning flows well narratively and will teach you a lot of intuitive stuff that you won't find in a textbook.

Research methods and statistics is only relevant if you want to read the scientific literature

Abnormal psychology is good if you're interested in the nuances of disorder

The blank slate, by Steven pinker. Best thing he ever wrote and literally btfos half of the world's psychophilosophies by identifying just three of the assumptions they're based on.

obviously General Psychological Theory by Freud. Has all his bangers in it.
