How to not be a brainlet and just sit down and read? I keep distracting myself. I can't even read 20 pages without eventually distracting myself.
Help

I became an avid reader like three months ago and I can't stop. I stopped watching tv and I don't spend much time on 4chan anymore.

Here's how I did it.

-Remember the average person reads like zero books a year. If you read 5 pages a day, you are 5 pages above the average person

-Don't force yourself to read. Commit to read 5 pages a day. I swear after three days you'll feel like reading more and after a month or so you should be reading 50-100 pages a day for pleasure

-Read various books at the same time. When I grab a difficult book or one that makes me sleepy I grab another and switch. This should refresh your head. Keep them thematically different. I read economics and fiction.

-It isn't a race. Reading slowly won't make you sleepy that fast. Try to acknowledge what books are for you to read fast and which aren't.

-Buy the physical copies. When you get the books from your own money you'll feel the need to read them to avoid the feel of wasting your money.

-Start with books highly discussed here so you feel motivated to discuss.

I read outside, either in the garden or, more preferably, in a little park/woodland by my house. My phone is shit so I don't get internet at all and it has no games on it. If I am inside, then the pull of internet/tv/food is too much. When outdoors, I can breeze through pages.

Read better books (or easier books, depending on your past experience with reading). What book are you reading, OP?

Probably my biggest problem. But Cold Turkey Blocker actually helps with that.

Not really an option for me to read easier books, but that isn't my problem anyway.
Reading 2 programming books and another one about analysis. I'm interested in the material and currently try to read 15 pages of each every day. But if I could just read 50 of each, I'd be done so much earlier, ya know.

Read in the morning after you had your breakfast (and a cold shower). Do not turn on your computer until you've hit your mark for the day. Take breaks but try to read in big uniterrupted chunks. Most importantly you have to find the enjoyment in reading to lower your resistance.

Uh, waiter, this pasta is... good?

find a book that is really, really good for you at that time and it will be much easier to read. start where you are at, what feels relevant to you, and what is fun for you to read. then its not work, its leisure. you will begin to see how things are connected and everything will slowly seem more and more relevant, and things you never even thought of before will become interesting, and easy to read about

That's really smart to be honest. Yes, that's what I will try. I'm already doing the rest though.

I know it's pasta but that's what sort of happened to me. In the last four months I have read Submission, After Dark and Frankenstein (1818). The Golem is next. And yes, I'm also trying with a simultaneous unrelated read (currently starting Sowell's Basic Economics)
The only downside is realising how much time I wasted on /tv/. Fuck that, I don't think I will ever see a Marvel movie again. It feels good.

Read on your phone. Not even kidding, it'll transform your internet habit into a reading habit.

This. Especially if you work a menial job that only requires minor check ins and you can read on your phone at work.
