No you faggot, do whatever your will and ego tells you to, even if that means staying chaste because some bitches disgust you.
What people follow is not hedonism, its just herd mentality (really had to use this fedora word), because they often dont do what they want but just do what other people tell them they need to do in order to enjoy life.

You like all morons dont understand what hedonism actually was. You think its sex and drugs and rock and roll.
Greek hedonism basically meant do what gives you pleasure. If reading books, drinking water, and going to sleep at 10 o clock every day gives you pleasure, you're hedonist

Read Stirner to despook yourself from religion, nationalism, morality, humanism or any greater good that doesnt care about what you like.
Then jump over to Nietzche to create your own system of values based on affirmative action and realise that all that matters is power and happiness is the feeling when your power is growing.

Live nominally catholic in public but hedonistic in private. That’s how I’m living at 23 and it’s working horribly for me, I have absolutely nothing in life that I want. However, I maintain a good public image and have the opportunity for everything I want. My values and desires simply don’t align though, so what is one to do?

If your problem is that you don't know, then either course can lead to the same revelation: either you behave as a Catholic and find that the love for Christ which fills your heart resolves the tension of indecision, or you behave hedonistically and find that your actions are so repugnant to you that you are desperate for another way. Either choice is not without its uniquer dangers. Perhaps by avoiding hell it remains a temptation for you, or perhaps in yielding to your passions you find yourself overwhelmed to the point of no return. It is up to you, but in any case you require convincing of some sort. This requires that you know and believe, and so, in the end, you will have to know what catholicism is about, as well as what hedonism is about, and how they are related. There, then, is your third option, your way of escape: whatever you do, seek to know what it is you are doing, what it is you are seeking by your actions, whether or not you will actually find that thing through that action, and so forth. To make progress in answering these questions is a vertical ascension, rather than a mere going back and forth between "lifestyles," weighing them according to taste instead of a more serious, more mature benchmark.

All irony aside, that depends on where one scores on the scale of psychopathy: The higher, the more at ease one is in a life of profound hypocrisy, secrecy, and private pleasures that run to the exotic--particularly with regard to domestic abuse and neglect, and its multi-generational perpetuation. But since you're obviously jesting, and familiar with objectively better modes of life, fashionably theocratic pretensions are as out of the question for you as they are for me, even for the sake of safety, and despite the disastrous regime changes to come. As for those infuriated by this kind of expose, let them feign religion, according to whatever cult operates to the advantage of their taste for arbitrary power.

I don't understand this.
How is Nietzsche "acquire power" not a complete spook? Living in 2019's Europe, I see no fucking reason to acquire power. I have a nice apartment that costs a relatively small fraction of what I earn and I can fuck girls on Tinder when I really need to.

I too shift towards a quite nihilistic stance lately (maybe hedonistic too, as I don't feel like making a baby, as being a parent take all your time), and so I honestly try to find out what Nietzsche is saying and whether or not he maybe was just bitter. What would it mean for me to have more power and why would make my life better? Would having power make me less bored? If so, how? I feel I'm already free to do whatever.

Plx respond, I'd like to understand the point of more power (?)

>> No.12812987

>>12812941
Nietzschean power (will to power) is a much more general thing than what you think of as power. It's Schopenhauer's Will with a positive spin. Nietzsche considered his philosophy (and all "true," non-academic philosophy) as an art of thought that dominated all others, an expression of his will to power. Creating the value system would itself be an expression of will to power. Any time you "win" an argument, that's a petty expression of your will to power. It's creation, force, agency, activity, the motion of life, music. Power is its own point, having this power fulfills itself as its own end. The kind of power you seem to be talking about would be called "slavery for bourgeois rabble" by Nietzsche.

>How is Nietzsche "acquire power" not a complete spook?
That is not a spook, the power is your property and with your property you can control other things and exert your will.
The Nietzschean power can literally be anything more than legal just property. Perhaps in your instance it could be getting a better job, developing a new skill or find good partner. Choice is yours. Most of the things you do and work for are for power in some way.

>I too shift towards a quite hedonistic
Hedonism is not, as said by a another other, sex drugs and rock n roll. Its about doing what you like and what you want that being staying all night playing games, reading books or cycling.
