Seed in this sense is a ranking within a tournament. Hal has "justified his seed" by playing well or whatever. It's a sportsball thing.

a seed is a place in a tournament and an expectation of how well you do. it usually depends on your record before up until the tournament or how well you did in qualifiers. high seeds usually start against low seeds in an effort to have the final be between the best teams.
