I hope to read Mein Kampf someday, seems only logical. He was easily one of the most influential people on the planet; brought the concept of genocide to the forefront, revealed yet again that Socialism doesn't work and leads to the death of millions except in this case more to do with outright murder rather than starvation, of course WWII was kind of a big deal, though with all that said there had been some impressive technological advancements in Nazi Germany. They had early insight on rocket technology, likely the most advanced tanks on the planet, perhaps the best SMG in 1940 but arguably better designs came about quicky as the war progressed (PPS-43 comes to mind), and the P38 certainly seemed to be the most modern handgun design of WWII for a variety of reasons (in fact, add a double-stack mag and lengthen the slide and you've basically got a Beretta 92).

Also, oddly enough, even though he was the head of the National Socialist Party it seems as though the quality of life for the typical Caucasian German was extremely high for the time, certainly a huge improvement compared to the 1920s which had gone so poorly due to the Treaty of Versailles. I also recall learning that taxes were lower in Germany than for the UK at the time, which came as a shock. Almost sounds like Hitler was a Capitalist; it would explain the strong economy, yet his party was the National Socialist Party. Very strange... perhaps there's some mentions of his economic goals in the book, but I certainly suspect that his hatred of the Jews is closely tied into whatever Socialist bend he may have had, ultimately viewing them as the 'Bourgeoisie', but adding and identitarian spin onto it. "Not only are they the oppressive rich, but they're not even 'proper Germans' because they're not Caucasian." Double-whammy. Make 'em a scapegoat for the failures of WWI, rile up some very real and understandable anger within the German people disaffected by how things had gone, direct it at said scapegoat, add some dehumanization and sprinkle in some industriousness... boom, 6 million.

Ah, there's a thought; no doubt he had gotten many resources from occupying all that land in 1939, but then how had things improved so much before then from 1933-38? Did everyone have food? What poliies did Hitler implement to stave off the seemingly inevitable starvation that comes with Socialism? USSR, Maoist China, North Korea, Venezuela... how was National-Socialist Germany an anomaly to this seemingly universal trend? Were there even any Socialist policies?

I think more research is needed. I'm not the person you're replying to; I'm the one who initially brought up that Nazism is National Socialism. If you take a Capitalist system and call it Socialist, that doesn't make it so. Look at 'Social Democracy', which I think is a ridiculous term. Sure, it has fairly high taxes and there are programs that effectively redistribute money to help the poor (welfare, socialized healthcare, etc.) but fundamentally the nations that are pointed to that are considered 'Social Democracies' such as Sweden or Norway or perhaps Canada, they are not Socialist. They have a foundation of Capitalism but with high taxation and social programs, which is think a FAR more accurate term is 'Socialist-leaning Capitalism." Without that foundation of Capitalism, Socialist elements will crumble under their own weight.

So... if Nazi Germany was indeed Socialist, how? Believe me, I despise Socialism/Marxism/Communism, and I would be positively tickled if I could truthfully lump in all the deaths under Hitler to the tens of millions from Stalin and Mao and Pol Pot. Still, we must go with truth and not let our biases get in the way, it's a necessity for me as a Christian.

Whatever the case, it does seem as though Nazi Germany was fascist, and I had learned about that ideology recently. It seems to me that fundamentally it's about putting the importance of the state over the importance of the individual. In a way it seems like it puts an almost religious spin on things, as though the Government is to be held in the highest regard, practically worshiped. This suggests, if nothing else, that this element of Nazism is 'big Government' and thus at least in this regard (and in being for gun control) they are very left-wing. The more right-wing element, I think, perhaps more specifically called "extremist Conservatism", they wanted to maintain a Caucasian Germany. The Jews are an ethnic group, they are the people of Israel, of the holy land. They don't seem to consider themselves White even though many of them do indeed look like just typical Caucasians. So the ethnic stuff seems to be coming from the far-right perspective, essentially the opposite of Angela Merkel's far-left view of the matter. She flooded her country with people from the third world, lots of Black and Brown people, and now German Intelligence have come out just a month ago with a report speaking of Muslim anti-Semitism being a huge problem in the country.

Rather sad. Whether experiencing far-right identity politics or far-left, the Jews get the shit end of the stick in Germany every time. That 2021 election can't come soon enough... I'm hopeful for the AfD, and it gladdens me to see Australia elect a right-wing Government to pull things away from the left, just like with Italy, and I recall the last Swedish election brought things closer to the center as well. In 4 months is the Federal Election here in Canada and I anticipate a Conservative victory.

I think the main distinction is that there was a clear respect for historical national culture, and strict enforcement of those moral, intellectual and economic standards that reflected that lineage. But a somewhat private economy could still flourish, so not to inhibit its competition on the world stage; the kind of begrudging relationship fascists states need to have with capitalism to not be exploited by other nations or run up a trade deficit.

I'm going to give a shot to defining Socialism.

Socialism seems to me to primarily be about the poor, not even so much the working class but rather the most disaffected individuals in modern day society, which in the West isn't too bad (at least outside of California). Socialism is meant to obtain wealth from the masses, primarily the rich, and use this wealth to sustain the most vulnerable in society. To house them and feed them. Wait, I think I just defined the modern view of 'Democratic Socialism'.

Socialism proper... I need to learn more of Venezuela's brand of Socialism. Perhaps it's the taking of wealth, obtaining Government control of production (how can 'workers' control production; there is hierarchy in everything and inevitably every factory will have a leader, someone at the top), and radical redistribution of wealth to try and force everyone to have the same amount of goods. I'm skeptical as to whether this system was indeed present in Nazi Germany.

Communism, it seems, put more emphasis on removing 'profiteering', meaning to sell something for more than the cost of manufacturing it pretty much. I'm doubtful that this took place in Nazi Germany either.

Marxism... that's where the whole 'workers control the means of production' thing comes from though also the bourgeoisie/proletariat stuff. It doesn't take into account any 'middle class', just 'upper' (bourgeois) and 'lower' (proletariat) classes. So fundamentally it might be an incomplete philosophy if it only divides the economic population in two. A lot has changed since the 19th century. In 1895, the average European lived on only $1 a day in today's money. Nowadays, people aren't nearly so poor as that in Europe.

if you were actually looking for a serious reply, try looking for an independent/indie bookstore. most of the employees will probably have a basic knowledge of literature (at least more then an employee at barnes and noble would have), and understand the book is a classic.
