6/10. It could get pretty boring at times but there were some good bits like the girl who had to take 100 dicks per night to pay back her debt

>> No.13260801

8/10
definitely boring at times
I enjoyed it more after taking the decision to read it like a collection of short stories, that is, one chapter every 2-3 days
I also took a few notes
Anyway it is worth reading

/lit/ hates but it's a 10 for me. It's just so full of life and wonder and despair.

It's pretty hard to read, the names are really similar to each other and makes it much harder to follow. The fact that the whole story is cyclical doesn't make it easier. The first and last paragraphs are pure kino, though everything else is pretty much overrated. I'd rate 6/10 at best. If you have nothing to do, it can be a lot of fun. Especially if you like incets - there's tons of it. Or if you like weird obscure things like transporting ice through hot locations, or how photos used to be made long long time ago (they didn't have cameras).

Some of his other stuff is tighter in terms of construction and thematic control, but it's still super.

8/10 interesting presentation of columbian history, shame it was published ~10 years before marquez became friends with escobar.
Some really nice magic realism scenes like the years of rain.
Cautionary tale of autism in times when you dont have productive things like computers to channel your autism into and have to do shit like smith gold fishes and read occult scrolls

Their names are not hard if you understand how it works.

Well, it's been a while since I read the book but the grandfather is referred as José Arcadio Buendía (names and surname), his son is referred as José Arcadio (names only) and the grandson as Arcadio (single name only). All the other ones are variants that make sense within the context, for instance, there's no way you could confuse the first Aureliano with the last Aureliano since the former is dead by the time the latter appears.

I read Cholera but man did it drag on for the first 100 pages. I couldn't give a fuck about Archi after a while. Meanwhile, i never got bored of the Buendias. I wanted more at the end.
