because dishonesty is a bad habit to get into.
taking you direct experience with reality and then getting into the habit of constantly proccesing it through a filter of deception or not-deception is a good way to start losing touch with reallity.

When you lie you lie to yourself.

It leads to creation of a fake ego, an image you'd have to upkeep with more lies or delusional stories about yourself.

Man is like a 2 way mirror, if you walk around thinking about how to defraud other niggas it will show in your behavior if you dont let it show in your words.

what anon said. being a very good liar is hard to do. most people can tell when you do it and even if this were not the case, would you want to be some who is very good at lying?
if you were capable of convincing others with you lies, whats to stop you from eventually doing it to yourself?

In order to be good liar you need to believe your own lies. Easy to do in psychotic states with a talent for autosuggestion (this is how people do shit like tulpas etc).

be honest or not honest doesn't mean much. what's your worldview, what's the context? develop beyond it and you will find an answer for either. no one can tell what worldview and culture to have, telling you is to impose their own.

Only if conditioned "lying is bad". The guilt doesn't come as hardwired response. It is purely cultural.

This is in contrast to things like empathy. Nobody needs to teach us to go on murder sprees, we sorta know it's not a good idea to be violent all the time out of the box.

Lying is not necessarily a bad deed, see Kant on "justified lie". Truth can have consequences too brutal to a point it becomes a "good deed" to actually keep it hidden and invent some bullshit to prevent a disaster.

"Lying = always bad" is puritan tradition of retard moral absolutes, and has pretty much nothing to do with spirituality. Notice that all parables in old religious texts mention only cheating (lying for selfish gain) as shameful and not lies as such (ie telling kids Santa Claus exists - there's no intent of harm).

EQ. Females are far better liars - as well as better at spotting a lie. IIRC the current working theory is that language developed in humans from evolutionary pressure to deceive each other better. No more about who's the biggest ape, but also about who's the most cunning one.

I think the whole judeo-christian project (don't murder, steal, cheat, lie) was an interesting experiment in cooperative game. If everyone were good christian, there would be need for lies - not even "justified lies". Problem is if you have even one non-christian, it becomes a non-cooperative game - and behaving like a good christian in there is just plain stupid, you literally hate yourself because you cause yourself harm by not behaving rationally.

But it was worth a shot I guess. like communism. In a system where everyone is brainwashed and cooperates (=everyone christian, =everyone communist), you can collectively attain better payoffs than the sad equilibrium state of tit-for-tat where a lot of good is wasted by lack of trust.

I am a recovering compulsive liar. Let me tell you it is not good to lie all the time, the biggest problem you have is keeping track of your lies it's actually pretty taxing on your brain to keep track of all the little lies and not slip up. And like other people have pointed out in the thread people will distrust you fairly quickly. I find it's actually much better to just always tell the truth so when you actually have to lie people think you're telling the truth.

I'm so nervous most of time while lying that I don't even feel nervosity anymore. I also am quite direct as to make porple believe I'm not the type to lie. Couple that with the fact that I'm quite honest Most of the time and whenever I lie now nobody ever suspects me of it.
