Hello /lit/, I just finished reading Dune, I enjoyed it immensely and was wondering if the movie was any good, or if it would ruin my perception of the novel. I have been stung too many times before see the relatively recent adaptaion of H2G2 .

I think the movie's not as bad as it's usually said to be, but it's not "good", either. You may want to take advantage of this rare opportunity to keep your imagined Arrakis pristine, free of weirding modules and Sting in armored underpants. Seriously, seeing the movie will not enhance your Dune experience.

Personally, I thought the film was terrible. Really, really bad. I took it out from the library, and couldn't even get half-way through it.

Normally I'm fine with long films, and I don't have anything against old films - Dune, however, is far too long (for how little it contributes) and looks far more dated than it is. It came out after the last Star Wars film and yet looks far, FAR older than the first. It's really not worth your time, OP.

I've heard that they even cut out Paul's daughter from the end. Like I said, I stopped watching about half-way through, because it was just too painful to watch after reading such a well-conceived novel.

The only plus I can think of for the film was that it had Patrick Stewart in it. That was a pleasant surprise.
