This is way better than the shit we get now. First of all way more people were calling OP out for being off topic whereas now it is accepted that /lit/ is a dumping board for r9k poltards who reckon themselves intellectuals but only ever talk about Jews and women, and secondly the conversation is more genuine, nobody is talking about hypergamy or why femoids are inferior because of their skull shape or why we need to keep women in burqas like they would now.

This. Gets hard to repeat this over and over again for the retards. 4chan is not the same as it was years ago. Anyone who denies that 4chan has changed is a post 2016 newfag. Do you think 4chan traffic has increased 5 times because individual basement dwellers are dedicating 5 times as much time to the website, or did the traffic increase because the userbase increased by 5 times? The people back then actually knew how to use sage. Saged.

I think you're missing the forest for the trees. /pol/ and /r9k/ (and their counterparts, r/atheism and r/chapotraphouse) come here because /lit/ lost its sense of elitism. Even about three years ago, if you posted Harry Potter you got Bloomposted off of your own thread; now you'll get pages and pages of "Don't be so pretentious, it's good for what it is". I remember a few months ago there was a fucking Rick and Morty thread with hundreds of replies. That disgusts me far more than any "Why are women ignorant sluts?" or "Books for when Trump is a faggot" threads.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Whatever you think of Harold Bloom he was the glue that held this board together in its best years. His enthusiasm about literature was a model for people, that was accessible even for the newest of newfags. As his influence waned, that's when the philosophyfags took over the board, and from there, trumps election (/pol/ and r/donald migrants), Jordan b peterson's rise ("was Nietzsche a capitalist?" posters) and chapo trap house becoming popular (other side of the coin from /pol/, meaning no /pol/ shitpost can go ignored, because some chapocel always takes the bait and vice versa)

I came here in 2012 and lurked before posting. I posted once and still got called out for being a newfag, then lurked for a few more years without posting.
The problem is that the new newfags are Dunning-Kruger geniuses who believe that they are blessing this board with their presence, and unironically believe that being called retarded is a definite sign that they're saying something intelligent. You cannot reason with these people. Shaming them for being new does nothing. 4chan has become a breeding ground for these retards, and there's no way to get rid of them without making drastic changes that would affect the ad revenue that the staff gets.
Gamergate and the fappening created a lot of newfags in 2014.
The 2016 election...lol. Someone link the thread on reddit where hundreds/thousands of literal boomers from r/thedonald were talking about 4chan. Idk how the 4chan staff is satisfied with literal reddit boomers posting on 4chan before lurking.

This is way more effort than the newfags today are willing to put in. Even the three lines of text in the OP are too much for them. They switch between "What does /lit/ think of Shakespeare?" or "SHAKESPEARE IS SHIT!" and refuse to write more than one sentence. I seriously wonder how these useless pieces of shit manage to put their socks on in the morning. If you ask them to expand on their opinion they are totally unable to. The majority of people on this board digust me. 1 in 100 threads you will see someone who actually knows what he's talking about and takes the effort to have a decent discussion.

Could not agree more. Bloom is /lit/'s patron Saint (almost all of his books have /lit/charts in the appendices). His message of pure literary pleasure is a great encouragement and an antidote for brain fog, but the board rejects it because poltards and chapocels and Dawkins posters and fucking Ben Shapiro fans want to "enact meaningful change in context of important issues" . This is darkly humorous because this is the exact thought process that creates the shitty teachers that make children despise literature and the dreadful New York Times bestsellers they preach.

It's also important to note that that OP:
>Has actually read Shakespeare before asking about /lit/'s opinion on Shakespeare
>Has an opinion that he is able to defend
>Avoids making grandiose claims of "SHAKESPEARE IS THE GREATEST WRITER OF ALL TIME" or "SHAKESPEARE IS FUCKING SHIT!"
He creates the thread with some understanding of the subject matter, poses an interesting question and is able to actually discuss Shakespeare with the people who reply to them. The newfags on here will make threads asking our opinion on books they never read, and the newfag OPs are totally unable to contribute to conversation.
Read first, then post later. Even if you only skimmed a few chapters before posting that would be better than nothing. You would at least have some ideas to work off of.

I propose we unite under the banner of bird memes, they are plentiful and wholesome. When you post quality, attach a bird. The frog children shall come to fear the bird.
Go forth Brothers, go forth and have true discussion. The death of nu/lit/ shall give birth to true/lit/. If it is built, he shall come.

95% of the authors that gets talked about here hate jews and women. Who's your favorite author, and why?
I'm going to beat my chest about Pynchon til the day I die. Man had a knack for grace, and his prose reads like he's having sex with the English language. The candy drill from Gravity's Rainbow is the singular greatest thing I've ever read. It was refreshing to see for a while, then I realized that very few people actually feel like having a proper conversation about anything at all, really. A few decent threads but ultimately a lot of dumb memery and regurgitation of the same people and ideas. Might actually be interesting when a collapse or something actually major happens but really what are the chances? Infused with that wonderful verse and sentence construction and you have dialogue that feels like heaven to perform.
