He's the most overrated character in both literature and history, in my opinion. And I'm not even close to an atheist. I just found myself so disappointed actually reading the Bible and how boring Jesus was, not to mention morally imperfect. People believe that the universe was not only created, but created by this guy? Okay. It's about as primitive a belief as believing Zeus created the universe, but carried over into the modern day. More of a self-help system than some kind of coherent metaphysics, but if it helps people psychologically then that's always a nice thing.

It's also kind of funny that if an atheist called Christians all the awful names that Jesus referred to his enemies by (children of Satan, brood of vipers, etc), they'd have so much more disdain for them than they already do. But when Jesus does it, it's apparently not simply acceptable, but the very standard of morality itself (since Jesus is God-in-the-flesh, and lived a "perfect" life).
