Hi /lit/, sorry to bother you, but I recently got a Kindle and I remember reading on other boards that you guys have the inside scoop on where to get ebooks for e-readers. Is this the case? Is it sort of something where I have to lurk to find out about it?

If someone wouldn't mind, I'd be grateful for just a point in the right direction, or something. Appreciate your help in advance.

I don't know what I can offer in return. Maybe if you guys are curious about how e-readers look in real life or something, I can take photos or give feedback, but I get the feeling you guys probably know all of this stuff just because you're all more aware of this stuff than I've been.

Honestly, bro, all you need is google. You're on 4chan, you should know this.

Google - free ebooks/ ebook lists/ blah blah

Also irc #bookz

Now go and google everything.

I know Sandy Gunfox is a decent repository, and I'm led to believe there's a disproportionate amount of genre fiction (sci-fi, fantasy), so that might help.

You can never overstate the importance of Project Gutenberg if you're looking for something a little dated.
http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

And if you're looking for stuff that's a little more general, I'd recommend the irc channel "Bookz" on the irc.undernet.org server.

I know there's a list of like 5-6 sources that gets posted, but I don't have the other ones on there.

The only shit worth reading is already in the Public Domain so Project Gutenberg is a god-send.
Also check out the UK and Australian PG sites as their copyright laws aren't run by Disney, and therefore have much more to choose from.

Yeah I know Google is pretty capable, but I was just checking to see if there was a quick way to cut through all the bullshit websites which claim "Free Ebooks! Sign up for our onerous newsletter and we'll give you a download link for some worthless trashy novel!!!" or something.

But thanks for the IRC channel and the advice.

Thank you as well! I think this is more than enough to get me started.

If someone feels like there's a resource which they want to plug or mention, feel free. But I'm satisfied for answers, so there's no imperative or anything.

Thanks again, /lit/.

I haven't... I didn't know you could root a Kindle.

What do you gain from rooting it? I've already enabled the image viewer.

All I can add is torrents. When I got my Kindle I went to Demonoid and searched 'kindle' or 'collection' or 'library' and found thousands of awesome books in the right format or a format very easily converted with Calibre. By the way, if you don't have Calibre, google it and get it.
