Do not vote for a book more than once and do not vote for anthologies. If you do this your vote will be removed. The Bible does not fall under the former category. Non-fiction is allowed. Voting will close at 12pm EST December 20th at which point the results will be posted in the form of a Spreadsheet.

I am proud to announce the dawkins discord has grown to over 30 members. This statement may serve as a final warning to the convener of the survey in subtext; but alas! Since subtext is often not enough for the religiously minded simpleton; mayhaps we make our purpose the more clear? Indeed; our collective might now holds a mighty sway over the outcome of this little election; and rather (and furthermore, rather!) I dare say we are now the majority party. So, to elucidate our request (read christcucks: demand!);(in pertaining to this vote); the bible be removed from the running postehaste; as it is a juvenile and nasty little collection of mean fantasies; and rather; low minded and intellectually devoid ones at that! So this: remove the bible; or we shall place Dawkins at his rightful throne in position one, sending the apple-dated simpletons on this loathsome little Luddite chamber into chaos. If you wish to avoid conflict; conflict dare we say you shall not win; (you shan’t); heed this and we shall desist. To Hitchens! To Dawkins! To... to... (bloody hell gents, need I say it?!) ... to science!

>>14371733
Also, according to ECTSL, the literary genres are:
>An initial 0 is used for ancient literary catalogues in which compositions are cited by their first lines.
>An initial 1 indicates compositions with a high narrative content, 1.1 to 1.7 being ones in which deities are the principal protagonists and 1.8 ones in which legendary heroes such as Lugalbanda play that role.
>Category 2 moves on from myth and epic to compositions referring to events and rulers that are attested elsewhere in the written record, although presenting both according to highly stylised paradigms that provide little historically reliable information. Categories 2.3 to 2.8 consist of praise of rulers and of divine hymns with prayers on behalf of rulers, grouped first by the city which then served as capital, and within that by the kings in chronological sequence.
>The primary focus of category 3 is on letters, including ones between historically documented figures and ones petitioning deities for assistance. While most of Sumerian literature can be classified as poetry on the basis of its style, a particular feature being the frequent use of syntactic parallelism, the letters between human correspondents are best regarded as prose. They are, however, classifiable as literature partly because they come from a curricular context and partly because they appear to be creative adaptations, rather than exact copies, of actual correspondence.
>Categories 4.01 to 4.33 consist of hymns praising deities and 4.80 of hymns praising temples, illustrating the central role that the divine played in Mesopotamia and the conceptual importance of the temple, the deity's earthly residence, to the functioning of society.
>Category 5 is more heterogeneous. It includes various compositions related to schooldays and scribal training (5.1); debates between personified aspects of nature in which each participant piles increasingly extravagant vitriol on the other until a deity, or sometimes king, reaches a verdict between the two (5.3); dialogues and diatribes, some of which glory similarly in invective but feature human participants (5.4); compositions celebrating the qualities of living as well as departed individuals (5.5); didactic compositions offering idealised moral and practical guidance (5.6); and lexical compositions making elaborate use of different words containing the same sound (5.5.4) or placing semantically related words within a narrative structure (5.9.1).
>The final category, 6, consists mainly of proverbs, many of which were organised into collections that also contain animal fables and folk tales.

In Search of Lost Time is one of the greatest works ever, I voted for it in fact. To call it the most ‘important’ work is incorrect. The Bible, The Odyssey, The Iliad, The Divine Comedy, Paradise Lost, Hamlet all outrank it in terms of importance to literature. Anyone who didn’t vote for the Bible is retarded.

Heh, I remember when I was new around here. If you're getting into philosophy start with the Greeks, if you don't, you'll fuck it up and have to reread everything once you've read the Greeks. If you want to understand board culture, read all of Dostoyevsky, starting with Notes, then Crime and Punishment, followed by TBK. Once you've done that, read Demons, then the Idiot, then reread Crime and Punishment, and finally reread TBK. Oh, and if you haven't read the Bible, at least the Gospels, none of it will make sense, so you may want to start with the Bible. Don't start with Ulysses, and if you're absolutely determined to read it, you need to start with Shakespeare, then Dubliners, followed by Portrait, and maybe you'll understand it, but only if you started with the Greeks. Also, if you don't read Lolita you're gonna be in for a rough time, and raving about Moby Dick is also important, although nobody actually likes it. Welcome to /lit/

you should start with V. if that doesn’t make sense read Inherent Vice, then read his books in order. If you started with Inherent Vice claim your first exposure was Gravity’s Rainbow.

Didn't say any of that stuff. Starting with the greeks is too time consuming for what they are worth. They are boring and are mostly wrong. Pushing someone that barely reads to start with the greeks will turn them off reading. It is a very idiotic meme. There are better things to read. If you aren't a moron you would be reading all over the place and would be using all the resources you have online.

>> No.14387114

>>14387082
If you're only reading so you can read meme books, you shouldn't use a /lit/ chart. Most of the works here will make no sense, or at least fall short of their potential, if you don't at the very least read The Illiad, and The Odyssey. Some newfag who starts with Ulysses, Moby Dick, or Finnegans Wake, just because they were high on the list, will be completely turned off. Ultimately, this is a Dostoyevsky board, so reading the Bible and his works in the correct order is the most conducive to assimilation.

This isn't a Dostoevsky board.
Recommending the Bible and the Iliad to a newcomer is retarded without knowing some of the literary history and the literary critiscm surrounding it. I seriously doubt than any of the retarded christcucks who memes the Bible to the top of the list have anything to say about it that isn't superficial.
