If that's true then why do all the Dharma-sastras texts which codifies caste-rules like the Manusmriti and Yajnavalkyasmriti all prescribe for the higher castes much more onerous responsibilities and restrictions and even more severe punishments for breaking laws, whereas for the lower castes they proscribe comparatively little rules like not going near Brahmins and proscribe much less severe punishments compared to the upper castes? The punishments for crimes in the Dharma-sastras increase in severity the higher up one is in caste. That's the exact opposite of what you would expect if Hinduism was a slave religion forced on India.

So I think that leading a contemplative or a bookish life is fine, as long as you realize that it's just a way of occupying yourself, and that you probably will not derive a really transformative or transcendent Enlightenment from it.
