The only sensible thing is to no longer leave it to chance, and have the state assume the means of production, which could be directed for some grand purpose like building massive housing complexes, and sending thousands of rockets to mars.

I can tell you exactly why socialism is and always will be less efficient than the free market. It's because no central authority can know exactly what needs to go where and when. In market economics resources are directed and distributed by price, but this obviously doesn't work for socialism which is the centralized distribution of resources. It's a knowledge problem and this why pure socialism is dead, it's why modern socialists try to incorporate the market into their schemes but all that does is create a less efficient capitalism, a less wealthy and innovation capitalism.

Some of them do, but Democrats also openly hate Bernie. If Bernie cancels student loan debt and gives us single payer healthcare more white folks will be able to start families. Simply giving tax breaks to the rich (who in turn just buy back stocks) as Trump did doesn't help the millions of impoverished whites who voted for him. Even if Bernie thinks whites are still more privileged there's no reason to think he hates white people and his policies would ultimately help them more than simply deregulating everything (which just allows corporations to further consolidate wealth and power). GDP is going up, great, but people are still poorer than they were before the recession.
