Any literature that analyzes an obsession with anime breasts? At the very least I'm sure Freud or Lacan said SOMETHING related to this phenomenon.

Still learning Japanese, going to be a year before I can read LNs probably. That said I don't imagine that will offer any analysis.

What exactly are you expecting to get?
Some Oedipus complex stuff about how you're obsessed with breasts because of your unsolved childhood traumas? Nah, better just read an eroge where a cute girl calls you a 変態 after looking up her skirt and then "punishes" you by putting her foot on your face

Not breasts specifically, but this book provides a Lacanian explanation of the waifu phenomenon.
>Rejecting simplistic moralizing, Saito understands the otaku’s ability to eroticize and even fall in love with the beautiful fighting girl not as a sign of immaturity or maladaptation but as a result of a heightened sensitivity to the multiple layers of mediation and fictional context that constitute life in our hypermediated world—a logical outcome of the media they consume.

OP here, I've already read that book. Lacan is pretty fucking fascinating but I have no idea where to start with actually reading his works in English.

Jesus Christ how does one behave and think like this? Everything is 'shitty,' overwrought, fraudulent, 'autistic,' and can be dismissed with a throwaway meme and insult. Stop making this board a worse place, please.

I get this all directly off of Pixiv from artists I follow, I'm so far beyond that level, kid. I have many HUNDREDS of anime breast pics tagged on my Pixiv account and that's not even counting pics from Twitter and Yande.re saved on my PC that aren't on Pixiv.

No. The difference is anime is entirely fictional. Makeup is real women practicing their instinctive art of deception.

Nobody, not even the most deluded otaku, thinks his waifu is physical. Indeed, I would argue the appeal to anime breasts is that they are perfect in a way reality can never be.

I've never read Freud or Lacan, but I associate anime breast worship with the Religion as Art section of Hegel's PoS, where, elaborating on religious hymns, he writes "The hymn keeps within it the individuality of self-consciousness, and this individual character is at the same time perceived to be there universal. Devotion, kindled in every one, is a spiritual stream which in all the manifold self-conscious units is conscious of itself as one and the same function in all alike and a simple state of being. "

>the appeal to anime breasts is that they are perfect in a way reality can never be.
Indeed. I would add on to that that there are clear symbolic, cultural, and even historical implications to a heightened interest in anime breasts. They are life-giving (nurture, biological functions of motherhood) and stand out as signs of fertility and health; celebrating them and immersing oneself in their allure is to revel in life itself. To let their image sink into you and take over from the perspective of a viewer is to unite with the female principle - not only the mother but all other types of female - and experience oneness and tranquility.
I am genuinely curious about psychological and philosophical explanations here because, despite the thoughts I shared, I lack any real ground to talk about this in those contexts. I'm still hoping for some insight. I suspect Lacan is the right direction but as I said I'm unsure where to start with him and he seems to have been prolific.

Better question: what's the deal with Jap hentai and smelly dicks.

Almost every hentai has a girl commenting on how stinky the cock she's about to suck is. Is genital hygiene not a thing in Japan?
