Do any of Fitzgerald's other novels come close to The Great Gatsby?

>> No.1490430

Yes. This Side of Paradise was his first novel, and Gatsby-level in my opinion.

>> No.1490432

I thought Tender is the Night was pretty close, though I admittedly prefer Gatsby.

Haven't read This Side of Paradise or The Beautiful and Damned yet so can't comment on those.

>> No.1490454

IMO This Side of Paradise was crap. Way too many esoteric Ivey League references, fragmented story, boring stuff. Beautiful prose though.

>boring stuff.

You just described Fitzgerald in a nutshell.

is the crack-up good

it's unfinished, right? i just like the title

I guess I'm a minority in thinking that The Great Gatsby was a terrible book with a mundane story.

It's not so much a book as a collection of essays and letters. Haven't read it, though, so I can't judge its quality.

No worries, I feel that the Great Gatsby was simply about pathetic rich white people having pathetic problems.

I feel that was kind of the point, that they and their problems were pathetic.

Getting shot in the face and run over by a car counts as a pathetic problem now?
