Stoicism is a massive cope. It was made by slaves; Marcus Aurelius was a slave too, leader of a broken system and his own sense of obligation to do what is right. And now stoicism is a massive cope in the new age of income inequality and low social mobility. 'Just think yourself to happiness' is an opiate, Aristotle was right, man must unlock happiness by becoming someone capable of being happy. Only saints can contemplate their way to fulfillment, and saints are rare.
