No Ayn Rand? She's the most female author I can think of.

Why is the book for Anne Carson a photobook and not Autobiography of Red or any of her poetry? What pseud made this chart

>> No.15059491

>>15059351
Honestly, I’d love to see them in charts that are not specifically about female authors. If they’re good works they should live lives of their own regardless of the author.

(I’ve Duras’ L’Amant and I loved it, but more due to personal reasons and contextual circumstances than to its literary merits. Nice book regardless if you’re after a psychological and carnal love story — I read it in French so idk if the translation is good).

nox isn't a photobook you pleb. it's probably her most formally innovative work. red is sentimental trash.

>> No.15059676

>>15059629
It isn't strictly a photobook, but it is hardly representative of her work as a writer. It would be like using her translation of Sappho as her pinnacle work.
If 'most innovative' is all you care about, it should be Float instead of Nox.

Handmaid's Tale sucks though, like all of Atwood's explicitly political novels. Cat's Eye and The Blind Assassin are much better.

Is there a chart for 21st century fiction that isn't driven by identity themes like gender, race, homosexuality, etc? Especially in the last decade. Seems like every recent critical darling has some kind of identity politics angle.

They are all excellent books, but I don't think a good amount of 4chan would put them on charts 'in their own right'. I think Anne Carson is one of the best writers writing rn (and you would expect, from her subject matter, that 4chan would love her) but she's barely talked about here at all.

A classicist who translates Greek and Latin works and writes contemporary lyrical essays and poetry. Though, this board hates anything contemporary, but being a women obviously doesn't help.

I’ve read A Brief History of Seven Killings, and it’s not about race, but it is about the country of Jamaica. I didn’t get the feeling of an agenda though, and it was pretty good. I’ve also read Against the Day which is unforgettably good, and Kafka on the Shore, which I didn’t like. I’m sure you can judge from the descriptions if they fit your description though.
