Just tried to make a long post but got erased. Basically the cathedral doesn't exist. Academia doesn't even have nearly the power he think it does. I mean they struggle to get funding and prevent department closure in the humanities. What's considered the cathedral just so happens to follow the neoliberal line also. Mainstream economics also rules the day let's not forget. Also the "left" is extremely fragmented and it's difficult to make all encompassing statements. Some don't even have a progressive conception of history of one that marches forward. Imagine that.

The tech geek thinker and defender who also mostly references wikipedia (or a 18th to early 20th century text which is unquestionable). He doesn't even engage with what he considers to be progressive thought and it's also narrowly all based off what he thinks of the USA/UK. Nothing more.

Then imagine actually thinking what's needed is a corporate CEO like Bezos running things, as king no less. I don't blame Thiel for being a fan of this self-felatio stuff.
