opinion on psychoanalysis?

>> No.15147674

It can be used for good and evil. it has developed more than one man alone has done and so we should treat it as if there are good forces working therein rather than as something automatically and fully 100% evil.

Question: do fetishes mostly evolve because of infantile events like freud says or is it mostly porn addiction and constant seek of novelty nowadays?

>>15147654
it's stoopid and a waste of time

>> No.15147694

>>15147685
I'd say it's a mix of both, it's kinda hard to separate the two nowadays

Hard to say, I will always have a foot fetish wether im on 1000 days celibacy without porn or not, so something must have happened in my youth. Other fetishes like an old man fucking a young girl, cuckolding, sibling incest etc were just temporary and got erased after i stopped watching porn.

same dude, I've had a foot fetish for as long as I can remember
dunno what the fuck caused it though

>I will always have a foot fetish
A part of the brain is arranged in a way that foot and genitalia are right by each other. Pretty funny but it does seem to make sense of foot fetishes.

Seems legit

It's good because it revealed a new complexity of desire never imagined before. It's bad because it re-territorialized desire towards the private world of the family and chained it to ridiculous narratives and theories.

Its pretty effective as a literary device.

But breaking your life down into symbolism and parallels might drive you insane.
Catharsis does feel pretty good though.

I find that life is too mundane for everything to be broken down into symbols.

Just refer to this thread:

How is psychoanalysis any different from say, when you would go seek the counsel of the parish priest? or go to the shaman or witchdoctor when you were no longer able to fuck your wife?
Part of me says that the body of literature means it's at least got a 'best practices' shared knowledge going for it that's a tiny bit more emperical... but I don't know.

Freudian psychoanalysis is cringe
Nietzschean psychoanalysis is based

>> No.15150280

>>15148377
No different. Slightly more empirical? Maybe. Lotsa selection bias.

Freud is Schopenhauer to Jung's Nietzsche. Lacan is Hegel.

Opinion?
It's something that I'll most likely study for the majority of my life, so yeah, pretty interesting and important.
In some ways, I prefer Jung, and in some ways Freud.

>fetishes
Great part of it likely in childhood.
You're up for some pretty disturbing discoveries when you encounter someone with strong oral fixation.
Plus, I wouldn't say people today are constantly looking for novelty.

I somehow think that if you take a strictly Jungian approach, you will be sooner or later confronted with beliefs about life after death, destiny, and similar spiritual concepts. I think that because otherwise I don't see much point in going through the whole collective unconscious. It just wouldn't fit with the existential approach of living only once. There's a bet on something higher, and I identify with that belief, but it's a big jump to ask from anyone outside that circle.

It heavily depends on the type of analyst you are seeing. Their personality will play the biggest role, pretty much regardless of their approach, if I discount the extremes.
