I've only been here for six months, but this is how it seems to me.

The tripfags are driving the decent posters away. This place is so fucking dead most of the time now - yes, I think it's gotten quieter in the time I've been here - or at least the bullshit to decent post percentage has gone off the scale. At one point the other night it seemed like the only person posting was (i think he's called) Fabulous. It was like he'd driven everyone else away just through sheer inanity.

And the domininant voices in other threads (like D&E) mean that the tone of the place is always middle to lowbrow, and almost always combatitve within that. A lot of it is kind embarrassing to read.

So I'm guessing there's nothing we can do short of ignoring them?
Can anyone recommend some other boards for talking about /lit/ please?

yes, perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I DO avoid encouraging them and I DO avoid responding to them. But it's hard to ignore the overall pattern of (it seems to me) reduced quality posting (if not posting in general) and the fact that they seem to be the dominant voice here, sometimes in extremis (I'm guessing that's the right term...)

OK so this is what generally seems to happen, and it's one of the reasons this board is clogged with shit. Because of my (slightly!) partisan attitude in this I find it difficult to blame anons for responding, because people have bad days, different experiences, and sometimes just rage at these pricks.

The other and perhaps more egregious consequence of tripfags is when someone takes the time to post something worthwhile and they turn it into...I don't know...whatever they're into ... themselves I suppose (beyond run of the mill trolling). This, I think, accounts for the reduced number of posts and reduced number of decent threads.
So my question is:
Is there anything we can do about it? As pathetic as it sounds, would a sticky help, promoting a blanket ignore policy?

I would say (not that it necessarily has any relevance) that judging from the tenor of many (not all) of the responses that the tripfags get, they often seem to be be from people who have been here, maybe, less than six months. I appreciate that this is utter guess work, but that's based on my looking at the tone of the post/ counter-trolling ability/ familiarity with the tone of /lit/ etc.

Here's my idea.

1) Stop posting in obvious troll threads.
2) Don't forget to SAGE!!!!!!
3) While most tripfags are annoying, a few do provide decent discussion and stay on topic (meaning they don't try to make the thread about them). Granted this only comprises of 1% of the tripfag population. So tripfag should become synonymous with troll (See fabulous), unless their history of discussion has proven otherwise.
4) Stop being such combative faggots. If anything said to you on 4chan bothers you enough to become upset, seek help. This, like any other board on 4chan, is based on discussion and exchanging ideas. If you're going to remain steadfast in your opinions and reject anything that isn't typed on your keyboard, get out. Keith Obermann (spellcheck?) and Bill O'riley probably have some internships available.
5) Quit bitching about semantics (this is where a /phi/ board would come in handy) and grammar.
