If podcasting is a remote, rootless activity why is it so concentrated in New York? Where is the great Cedar Rapids podcast? The Helena podcast? NYC is still the hub for the arts in America. Who knows, that might change after COVID. America has always been a patchwork with its art communities, writing especially (and it still partially is with so many writers going off to teach at wayward universities). I could see some of the things we think of as centered to NYC (publishing houses, for instance) moving elsewhere after this. The city will still get the most prestigious art shows, interesting films, and so on.

I don't live in NYC either, but it's undeniable that it's a magnetic for the arts and intellects. Podcast hosts don't count.
