Who started this meme?

I'm a yuro and I know a guy my age that's already a spiritual boomer that bangs on about how he's gonna make his kids pay rent.

Probably something like this.

tl;dr - Brands as identities requires super fluidity of identity and perspective. To be able to fluidly transition from Team Hufflepuff to a BTS stan to a "In & Out >> White Castle and I'll die on this hill" person, and so on.

Self-identity is now divided up between a constant rotation of pre-made corporate brand identities, like a jukebox, and those brand identities are simulacra loaded with inbuilt instructions all geared toward purchasing things.

>meme
don't call it a meme. this is our reality.
t. was unemployed college student without even $20 to my name during the great recession, driving an hour each way to campus so i could live at home and not go into debt, and asshole father started demanding $800 a month rent
>gave him the middle finger and moved in with a friend, did chores for his family out of gratitude
>no longer speak to my father

Well, it got you out of the nest, didn't it?
Failure to launch is a real problem. The real culprit here is our education system that doesn't transition smoothly (or necessarily at all) into employment.

Honestly living by yourself in young adulthood is a mega-meme. That's just not the way humans lived until advertising and TV was invented. What's wrong with just living with your mom until you get married? That's still how most of the human population outside the west is doing it.

The post-war era in the US was defined by opportunity and growth.
America's culture was founded on ideas and circumstances that don't really apply anymore, so it's time for an adjustment.
Personally I love America's rugged individualist "get the fuck away from everyone and leave me alone" tradition. I think it dovetails nicely with Japan's mono no aware "I cannot express myself and am isolated" shame culture hikikomori melancholia and explains why there are so many weebs here.

>got me out of the nest
...by destroying the entire family? wow. amazing. somehow no one else on the planet has a problem with "failure to launch" (which is a hollywood meme and, even without boomerist shitbaggery, exceedingly rare, especially since i was already a college student), and they don't harass and screw over their own CHILDREN.
>why don't the schools do it
how about YOU teach your OWN CHILDREN how to manage life as an adult instead of being a lazy negro and demanding the state raise your kids for you? is that so difficult? 10,000 years of human history and suddenly we need the state to teach kids how to be an adult.
