I became more recluse and content with myself. I have a well paying job and teach at a university so it didn't do any bad material-world wise. It made me more detached from especially negative emotions, and most people for me are a mess of addictions and emotions they can't control, so I should not bother them since only they can fix themselves.

These people (the overwhelming majority) have expectations that a book should make an effort to be readable, and yet here we have a set of books which eschew this very foundational principle and instead opt to do the exact opposite, to expend effort in becoming unreadable. These books are highly subversive for smashing the very core values that so many demand from their reading material.

Of course, not everybody gets upset at these books. But at the end of the day there is no book which will be considered subversive to everybody. There is no book which will destroy your sanity. That's just not how the real world works.
