Why not? You've never had someone let you down? You've never been convinced something was going to happen and then when it didn't happen had to reconsider everything and all your presumptions about the world?
Be it that she really loves you, or your bro will always have you back, or maybe you were sure that cheque would come through, maybe it was something more religious.
Maybe you were a cynical and finally something good happened, you realized that your pessimism, your conviction and belief that everything will turn to shit was disproved. That everything you presumed was wrong.
There are plenty of examples where your believes are catastrophically challenged that can ruin a man and therefore cause him to rethink everything about how he interacts with the world?

you cannot change a mans nature because if you changed an aspect of a man than that aspect was never his true nature
