Best American novel of the 1950's? Because I had neglected that period I thought I'd read up on it over quarantine and have been pleasantly surprised at just how strong the novel was in the U. S. over that decade, monumentally influential (after Burroughs, reading Pynchon's an entirely different experience, e.g.) even prophetic. To me the best can be limited to 5: Lolita, Wise Blood, Naked Lunch, Invisible Man, Dharma Bums..
John Cheever I think is the undisputed master of the short story this decade..
So..
Which is best and why?
Also,
is /lit/ a factualist or a liquefactionist board?

Also this is what happens when you beat and punish your kids, especially over little shit. It's the same shit that had hoards of kids killed by Gacy.

There really is nobody more repugnant than people who blame children. You remember being one don't you? How the fuck can you blame them over the adult who is actually aware of what they are doing?

She got hit by a car (died) a few years later so of little consequence, ultimately. But Lolita wasn't unmarriageable, nor would Horner have been very in the good ol' U. S. A. had she kept her looks, say. This is the land of P. T. Barnum after all.
