The only Jojo part worth actually reading is Part 7. It manages to create a great sense of scale, beautiful action, the villain has a plan that makes sense and for one there are no overly annoying main characters. Plus, it's the most heartfelt out of the bunch in my opinion. The other ones aren't bad, but they don't hold a candle to Part 7.

>> No.15905811

"Stay hidden to be able to indulge in my murderous fetish" or "Run my mafia group until some punks challenge me" don't make any less sense than "Get the magic corpse to benefit America". Pucci's desire to make everyone know their fates makes sense too even if the actual steps to do that are convoluted. And I don't know how you think Gyro isn't annoying. He has spurts of lolsorandumb and personally I found all the repetition about the golden ratio annoying as shit, as is how entwined in the story spin is as a whole.

This. I have always said this. The thing that struck me most about HxH is how the entire Chimera Ant arc felt like one long work of literature, like a 19th century baroque novel or a Shakespearean tragedy. It's rife with symbolism, irony, themes, and felt appropriately mature and tonally rich. Some of the passages spoken by the narrator were so beautiful and memorable (e.g. the humans in the sky line), and the narration served to create the feeling that I was reading some intricate tapestry of prose. I loved how tragic and anticlimactic the death of Meruem was, because it was richly meaningful in tandem with the themes presented by the arc; and it's because of this that I speak of him in the same way I do as Macbeth, or Oedipus, or John Milton's Lucifer. Some scenes, like the match-cut of the boots stomping on the insects between the Rose bomb used on human cities spoke to me on a visceral level, just as Classic Lit does.

The other recs ITT are just meme genre pics (JoJo? Berserk? Seriously?). If you're looking to delve into real /lit/ manga, Hunter x Hunter is the only indisputable choice.

Fights aren't even the primary focus of the series so it might not be for you if that's all you care about. If all you care about is fights and main characters beating villains with weird gimmicks, jojo might be more your speed. One Piece has some of that as well but fights are mostly for themes and to test characters ideologies above anything else.

>Oda's worldbuilding is equivalent to throwing shit on a wall and hoping it sticks
Oda takes his time to develop every major island in the series. You can literally write pages upon pages on all the various details and depth the locations have. Even the most ridiculous places seem like tangible and believable parts of the world and he seamlessly connects them to the greater world as well.
>all to teach a lesson to Luffy about not being careless
See now you're (seemingly willfully) completely misunderstanding or misinterpreting a scene and using that as criticism. It had nothing to do with being careless.
>lost his arm to a monster that shouldn't even leave a dent on him
That's just powerlevel faggotry and has nothing to do with the real story telling of the scene. Caring so much about one supposed power scaling "inconsistency" in the first chapter of a over a thousand chapter epic when the author was still getting into his groove and not yet confident is pretty dumb. Oda did say that he didn't initially intend to have shanks lose his arm but being under pressure by editors and the axe hanging over the head of his new manga, he was forced to spice things up a little, he gains more control of his manga later of course as he gains more confidence. Regardless it doesn't take anything away from the emotional resonance of the scene and forms a compelling motivation for Luffy's dream.

>Oda takes his time to develop every major island in the series.
>You can literally write pages upon pages on all the various details and depth the locations have.
Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle as the saying goes. Fans can find depth in anything that's chunky, but it's a matter of quantity rather than quality.
>Even the most ridiculous places seem like tangible and believable parts of the world and he seamlessly connects them to the greater world as well.
Of course it does! When your entire story takes place in a literal fucking cartoon World like One Piece, whatever bullshit the author plasters onto the page will seem "coherent".
>See now you're (seemingly willfully) completely misunderstanding or misinterpreting a scene and using that as criticism. It had nothing to do with being careless.
Teaching him about humility or self-control, call it whatever you want. The point is that Luffy is in deep regret because of Shanks's self-sacrifice and he is suppose to grow from it (he doesn't of course).
>That's just powerlevel faggotry and has nothing to do with the real story telling of the scene. Caring so much about one supposed power scaling "inconsistency" in the first chapter of a over a thousand chapter epic when the author was still getting into his groove and not yet confident is pretty dumb.
Why are you so hinged on calling me a power level fag? Everything I've been making fun of One Piece for has to do with its extremely banal storytelling. My problem with that scene (and so many other scenes prevalent) is the sheer amount of contrivances that go into attempting to make Oda's readers engaged.

Christ you're dumb.
>wide as an ocean deep as a puddle
Throwing around phrases like that without any elaboration or basis is the most brainlet thing you can do and pretty much confirms that you have no real argument.
Saying quality over quantity is likewise a shallow and vapid statement. It's quality and quantity. Fans can find depth because there is depth, they aren't making anything up. Only thing puddle deep is your understanding of One Piece. The mark of a brainlet is to mistake your own shallow understanding of something telling with the thing being shallow itself.

>whatever bullshit the author plasters onto the page will seem "coherent".
Except most authors fail at making their worlds seem coherent even when they're ridiculous. And no, it is far harder to make a unique and original world and make it seem coherent than to just copy paste real world elements. Most authors fail at even do that, let alone bringing their own world to life where locations have meaning like oda does.

>Teaching him about humility or self-control, call it whatever you want
It's not that either. Shanks literally thanks luffy for standing up for him. Why would he teach him self control when he wants him to be PK? He does teach him to pick his battles but that's an entirely other thing. He does grow immediately in the same chapter as well when he decides to become a man comparable to shanks by himself instead of pestering him to take him on his ship. Again you just show your painful inability to even understand a shounen. Don't know if you're doing it willfully or not.
>Everything I've been making fun of One Piece for has to do with its extremely banal storytelling.
From your posts, you don't seem like you'll be able to make fun of something like Sao or bleach, let alone One Piece. You're understanding of story telling is laughable. Maybe start with criticising something like Dora the explorer, the you can start making your way up to One piece.

It's worth a read. The first like 200 pages are basically the movie, but beyond that the world gets much bigger and more intertwined. It's basically about the futility of war when we're actively destroying the world in order to wage war. Also that nature is far more powerful and resilient than humanity. If we destroy each other than nature will persist and, given enough time, bury any evidence of our existence. Basic Miyazaki shit, war is bad, nature is pure, we should respect it much more than we do, and if we don't it just might be the end of us.
