Why are Wordsworth Classics covers so unbelievably terrible?

People always say "Well they're sold for cheap, so they just want the cheapest picture", but there's no way that THAT is cheaper than just a picture an axe on some floorboards. I honestly think they like catching some attention with their weird covers.

They're made by quirky British dorks. These people are oddballs and freaks.

That's the WORST cover I have ever seen. The faces are shopped onto the bodies. The guy on the left looks unbelievably gay and the guy on the right looks retarded. Wow.

I can only speculate that the people who choose and design the covers were given the following conditions:
1. You can not have read the book in question.
2. Your entire budget is $45 including meals for the actors.
3. The cover must make it obvious to a chimp or other lower species what emotion the protagonist feels at the one quarter mark of the book.

Looks like they are moving away from it to that style, thankfully
>>15908160
You joke but I think there's some truth to that. here's what I think happened
1. some sort of marketing consultant was hired and found that the public domain paintings didn't differentiate them at all from Penguin etc
2. They also probably pointed out that in their market segment, no one uses live actors like they do on romance novel covers
3. Additionally, the were able to show quantitatively that books with this sort of cover art sells better
4. Money was allocated, actors were hired, the shots were taken, and they just rolled with it out of necessity

The actors look decent, I think the fuck up was with the graphic designer who did the final renders.

Its better than peguins garbage translations other trash

They weren't that bad. My Wordsworth copy of Moby Dick looks has an oil painting.
I guess they decided they had to set themselves apart from Duke, Delphi and all those shitty publishers who are just reprinting shit from the public domain.
