Hello /lit/!
Can anybody recommend me some good children's books, for somebody around 10 years old.
Thanks!

>> No.1595185

Alice in Wonderland

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

classics for a reason

well honestly a 10 year might not like them at all

i would think that they would hate them actually

I actually don't really like Charlie, although I do like other Dahl books.

Phantom Tollbooth is in the same vein as Alice but is in a much more modern style that modern 10 year olds would be able to appreciate, since most 10 year olds don't understand why you would "work" to enjoy a book.

Mmm, I think most children would know those stories anyway, tbh, thanks anyway!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it!

Is the little prince suitable for this age?

Are you TRYING to fuck the kid up? Unless they're edited or something...

Seriously, I don't think suicide is apropriate material in a children's book.

Nonsense, kids are a lot tougher than you're giving credit. I read worse when I was that age.

Pic related, this was my absolute FAVORITE book when I was 10.

the little prince, to me, is less of a children's book and more of a book about childhood. i think it is most appreciated when the reader is older.

the three i just left are wonderful.

frindle is about a boy who starts calling pens "frindles" and it catches on so much that it becomes a new word.
SO cute & inspirational.

the chocolate touch is about a boy who loves chocolate so much that, when he goes to a new chocolate shop, the shop owner offers him a lifetime supply of chocolate. and, once he gets home, he's surprised to see he only got one piece. the piece of chocolate is magical and makes EVERYTHING the boys eats turn into chocolate.

my fathers dragon is a lovely adventure story. i don't remember much about it, but it was one of my favorites.

Why does the cover of that book make it seem as though those kids are going to shove the sharpie up one of their asses.

also, tangerine (or not), a series of unfortunate events, anything by carl hiaasen, redwall, horro pottor. I also immensely enjoyed books about dinosaurs and gladiators and shizz when I was ten. Also, the Timewarp muthafuggin Trio.

I am now done ranting about my personal favorites.

I think I was 9ish when I read War of the Worlds, the Time Machine and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Those are great and not too deep for a young person to enjoy(except possibly the last one ;)

I think it's good for young people to get exposed to quality sci fi early on as it gets them interested in science.

The Dark is Rising series, Susan Cooper
A Wrinkle in Time, Madeline L'Engle
I also read a lot of Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Encyclopedia Brown and the Babysitters Club around that age. And some of the Judy Blume books, like the Ramona books and "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret."
