Are there really any other American Novels from the past 50 years that capture something at the core of the modern American experience? Infinite Jest is a joke in comparison to this.

Infinite Jest is not about the American experience and its overall themes are not all that US centric, pleasure seeking being mistaken for the pursuit of happiness and replacement for honest communication is a fairly wide spread thing in the world.

God damnit I hated reading this book so much. Nothing happened. The characters were unlikable, boring and one dimensional. If I wanted to be bored by something like this I would listen to my mother gossiping about relatives.
