Sitting still isn't going to cut it for a heroin addict. Try getting really into exercise, it's the one thing that's actually a decent replacement.
You'll become an obsessed addict again but at least this time you'll be able to post progress pics on Instagram.
Maybe after that try reading during recovery time.

You can enjoy things again. You just have to resensitize yourself to normal stimulus. I'm a neuroscientist and I can tell you there's no reason to think it's not possible to reset your brain's reward system. I'd recommend practicing mindfulness, and some basic vipassana meditation. They'll feel like slow boring nothing at first, but that's how any activity will feel until you allow your dopamine receptors time to heal. Prayer is also good for that if meditation isn't your style. Any kind of activity where you're focused on very minute stimulus is good. It'll just take time. But as you get better, activities that require being more sensitive to low stimulus, like reading, will come easier to you.

Good luck brother. Genuinely proud of you for trying to kick it and improve yourself.

My brother was a functioning meth addict for three years, then a non-functioning addict for two, cleaned up for a year, got into heroin, and was toast for four.

He's clean now, but his habits have really changed.
>no longer draws, even though he could easily do it professionally
>no longer reads

I think he's really only happy when he's getting the adrenaline rush of downhill mountain biking or snowboarding nowadays. So for him at least, the adrenaline rush of extreme sports is enough to have something to look forward to.

You might just be a random noone but... ive been having a hardtime sleeping at night for a month and due to quarantine and have mostly been sleeping at day. im really scared im braindamaged because of not sleeping at night how do I fix it :(

>> No.16077848

>>16077672
I don't really know enough about TM to speak with any real authority -- but from what I've seen, I don't see any reason it wouldn't be effective. There's copious amounts of emerging research on the effectiveness of meditation, and so far it has fit every emergent model of neuronal organization pretty closely. I'd recommend looking into theories about mind modularity. The article from Stanford's Encyclopedia of Philosophy is a solid place to start.
>>16077685
You're not brain-damaged brother, don't worry. I myself got on a schedule of sleeping only every other day for a couple months and I was fine once I fixed it. The time that you go to bed isn't very important, what matters for fixing your sleep schedule is waking up at the same time every day. Entrainment (syncing up your circadian clock to the external clock) happens best when you force yourself to consistently wake up in the morning when the sun is out, like 8am-9am. The first few days you'll be feeling really tired but don't let yourself take a nap or wake up any later. Even if you got 1 hour or no sleep at all that night, do not sleep past your designated wake up time. Within a week you'll be all better.

If it's very severe, I can personally recommend eszopiclone to force yourself asleep. If you use it for a week with the same method of waking up consistently that I mentioned earlier, it'll be fixed. Absolutely don't take it longer than a week though, and avoid other prescrption sleep aids. Especially zolpidem.

>> No.16077855

>>16077685
Forgot to mention, when you wake up in the morning allow yourself to see sunlight within the first few minutes. Just put your face in the window for a minute or two. Blackout curtains and quarantine have probably fucked up a lot of people's photoentrainment.

Give it plenty of time. My addiction was only 2 years, but it eventually got better, and I'm sure it will for you too.
And unironically, you need to start lifting and performing strenuous exercise. It teaches your nervous system to respond normally to neurotransmitters again, especially endorphins. Further, if you're male, you've suppressed your testosterone for 6 years. Lifting will help change that. Combine it with this advice >>16077633.

Citicoline encourages dopamine receptor growth.
250mg a day should do it, but be aware it tends to make for an introspective, somewhat inflexible state of mind. Great for study.

It's a combination of choline and uridine, which are found in food, it's just a concentrated dose of those nutrients. As such, it's not a drug so much as a nutraceutical, like a caffeine supplement.

While this is true, most of u live in the cities, where light polution fucks up your circadian rhythm far more than black out curtains. The later should be opened the moment your clock ticks, ideally you use a sun-light wacking system. Sleeping in a semi-dimmed envoirment (light polution from the window is even worse).

>> No.16078800

The uridine component is mostly found in brewer's yeast, so it's not really practical to get it in useful quantities from food. Choline is extremely common: eggs and fish have just as much as citicoline and usually more. Green tea contains both caffeine and theanine, a stimulant and a GABAergic, so it tends to create a mood of calm focus; that'd be similar to the citicoline mood, though less strong.

Cutting "food stimulants" like sugar out of your diet can only be beneficial.

>> No.16078847

>>16078781
...And kind of, to answer your second question. There's less choline in cooked eggs than raw, but not a crazy amount less. You'd have to eat half a kilo of tomatoes to get a clinical dose of uridine, so I haven't investigated how cooking effects it.

Also, I simplified things slightly. Citicoline has cytidine as a component, which is swiftly converted to uridine by digestion. I think both forms are found in the same foods.

I've been using citicoline on and off for NoFap, and at the very least my relapses under its influence tend to be more vanilla. It sort of restores your previous interests that you had gotten bored with, to a degree. But it doesn't do all the work.

The quality of greatness is so much more than just your mindless abstinence from masturbation because your subreddit or mentally ill Peruvian fitness board told you it has been the secret ingredient to every 'great' of history. I'm not a coomer, but you type of people have to be the greatest copers, do you people really think that abstinence will improve any of the initial faults and reasons you relied upon masturbation in the first place? Don't listen to him, just stop watching porn. After several weeks without masturbating or watching porn, you will not even think about it that much, and your subconscious will be cleaner.

The subconscious is the biggest victim of porn consumption. When you dream at night while asleep, you can sometimes recall vividly some face, or scene, or memory which took place two decades ago, despite this memory or scene etc being vague to you when you are awake. That is because it is stored in your subconscious, which is only accessible while asleep or to those who are somehow adept at self-analysis. The point is that you do not want to be flooding your subconscious with hours upon hours of imagery which is violent in nature, degrading, and really quite sick. It will corrupt your conscience, rot away at your self-esteem, and taint all those other memories which are stored in your subconscious.

>>16084206
Just a warning to anybody who is thinking of doing this: make sure to plan beforehand. I only consumed water for about 11 days earlier this year (while smoking 20 cigarettes a day) and I still find myself becoming light-headed etc when I get up suddenly, and even fainted recently after two or three days without eating.
