Crime and Punishment. It's his most focused novel so it's a good one to start with.

The greeks.

>Actually, read Crime and Punishment first

i wouldn't bother reading Dostoevsky at all. you're better off reading a book that can give you important knowledge about the real world like Propaganda by Edward Bernays.

As long as you don't star with Karamazov, it doesn't matter.

You have to be a solid Stavrogin to pull this off

This is mostly alright (perhaps Demons and Brothers K interchanged) but since you're encouraged to ignore introductions, you'll want to understand what happened to this man. You can read biographies, read the introductions, but I'd recommend reading earlier Dosto (White Nights, NN, The Double) in order to compare it to the best Dostoevsky, i.e., his late self (Memories from the House of the Dead, The Eternal Husband). All minor stuff that show obvious changes.
Depends on how crazy you are with him. It's definitely a fun read to do on your 20s and you can always come back later.

Uh, am I screwed if I did this? I am in the middle of TBK and I feel I understand it fine.

Not really, anon. It's mostly that Karamazov is the peak, the masterpiece. I find that it is more rewarding to enjoy it at the end of your journey.

Interesting. Dosto's three Karamazov brothers embody spirit, intellect, and animality. Hesse's Narcissus and Goldmund embody each intellect and sensuality both in their pursuit for religious spirituality. are most lives lived with this triad or does everyone tend into one direction?
