I’m not crippled by it, it is just cringeworthy. Reading the Ancients and things up until the 50s you either see masculine referents (ie he, him) or else impersonal ones. The use of female pronouns would not bother me or even catch my attention if modern writers alternated between male and female ones. But they insist on using only female pronouns and their intentional use makes me question the objectivity of what is written.
