16293822 No.16293822 [Reply] [Original]

Im writing a story about medieval a female general whose commanding armies. planning tactics and doing amazing shit. Problem is I'm starting to doubt the realism of a woman doing all this. Is there any precent for a woman like this. Shouting armies. Making demands. Firing and cussing people.

Joan of arc right? Also there are some folklore warrior queens in most European countries all the way back to Artemis and shit

give her advisors, generals. she doesnt need to come up with all tactics and strategies, all great conquerors had experienced advisors

This, there is also Boudica:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boudica

OP really seems to underestimate what a driven general can do even as a woman.

Boudica is a prime example of a leader making sure as many of their own people are killed in an as short amount of time possible.
Boudica is a warning never to let a woman be a leader rather than a good example of a female leader.

women never lead fighting men, because women don't fight. They don't endure hardship so it is hard for them to preach that to the fighting men. Also medieval fighting men had a code of honor. Women just do what they feel and always feel they are in the right.

Maybe she could be a symbol ala Joan but it's highly doubtful that she could genuinely hold such power independently
Mind you to this day, nobody really uses women in their army for anything involving actual combat
>>16293898
Joan of Arc contributions were entirely symbolical
Her strategy was always to charge at the enemy and it was correct only once by accident

Pea brainers. Yes there is precedent for women running countries/militaries but it’s a fucking fantasy story so who gives a shit. Also imagine thinking it isn’t possible for a woman to ‘fire and cuss people.’ Of course what you’re writing is fantasy cause clearly you’ve never spent a fucking day in reality. Doesn’t know women who make demands headass.....

Supposing some homosexuality is entirely baseless, as are claims that she was raped. She also seemed to prefer the idea of settling down to becoming a nun, but neither was her calling anyways.

>Boudica is a prime example of a leader making sure as many of their own people are killed in an as short amount of time possible.
Seems like a typical WW1 general.

>>16294724
See above. OP didn't ask about the consequences of going to war, if that were the case we'd have to conclude Napoleon and Alexander were bad generals.

>>16294752
Joan of Arc was actually a pioneer in the use of artillery, which was a new thing at the time. She had a uncannily good eye for positions and trajectories.

Also
>symbolical
do you realize how important symbols were in that war? It was almost an English victory until the French suddenly gathered their shit and fought back. Symbols are life-savers in those situations.

>>16294880
Reread the OP. He is asking about whether the premise is realistic when there are actual historical examples. And then you come complaining that we shouldn't care about realism. I think you're simply in the wrong thread, and that you are answering to the wrong post to boot.

Yes, there are a few women who commanded armies in Indian history. Velu Nachiyar and Mangammal are the two queens that I can remember off the top of my head. Indian history isn't my forte, but you'll be able to find a decent amount of material due to the overzealous HIndus that push these women as symbols of India's progressivism (even though both faced obstacles in their time due to gender).

>Symbols are life-savers in those situations.
Yep. Same thing happened when Caesar was running amok through Gaul. He was in some deep shit a few times and his fighting on the front lines alongside his soldiers was what gave them the fortitude to win.
