>MC gets separated in dangerous area amidst cannibals
>finds their cave

>lots of detail toward the condition of their incestuous existence and deformities, as well as the various states of food (chewed faces, cooked hands, legs with chunks bitten out, etc.)
>MC finds cannibal patriarch and spends hours gruesomely torturing him (doesn't go into much detail) to the point where MC is indistinguishable from a red splotch of blood and the canniibal guy is described as a 'skeleton painted red'
>MC is in shock at this point when the party finds them again (with help)
>female out right eventually tells him he's too dark and full of rage to have anything with and leaves him
Neat, first time I've read a book that I remember where a woman tells the MC that he is quite simply too much but his inner struggles are a plot point as well since he's basically not!Punisher

Reverend Insanity (S-tier) - think ReZero minus whining mc who worships women. for ex: at one point he manipulates a grizzly bear to eat a young woman just to refine an item.
Legendary Mechanic (A-tier) - similar as above, but scifi space stuff. MC is a purely benefits MC.
God of Slaughter (B-tier)
Great Demon King (B-tier)

What Is Kindle DRM?
Digital Rights Management (DRM) is Amazon's method of physically preventing users from copying its Kindle book files. DRM means you can only read a protected book on a Kindle (or device running a Kindle app) linked to your Amazon account. Not all books have DRM but those that do will usually have a limit on how many devices you can use the book on over time.

I really don't want Foundation and Earth to end. It has been the best Foundation book thus far. I would be completely fine if Pelorat and Trevize went to the other 47 spacer worlds. It's a pretty cool space adventure and oddly comfy. I want to see them go to more dead worlds.

I'm in the process of reading Dune for the first time, and I enjoyed 95% of book one, but I'm instantly turned off by Paul and Jessica swapping roles. Jessica went from basically a matriarch into a weak teenager, and Paul went from interesting teen to know it all teen. I want to keep reading.

What did you guys think of Dune, barring spoilers?

>> No.16390612

>>16390412
Eh, the book is a chapter guide by one of the few Wolfe scholars. Solar Labyrinths are some essays trying to decipher some of the plot.

The process of returning ebooks and keeping them is sort of well known. You need a legit or semi legit amazon account that doesn't refund shit all the time.
>
There are multiple methods. With old Kindle 4 PC versions (1.17.1 or below 1.26, this is important or if may not work):
And this plugin is required:

Then you just buy the ebook, download it for your PC through the software (think you can even do it from a browser) or on your Kindle (you'd need to plug it in and copy the file to your harddrive as in a pendrive).
Then use Calibre and its plugin to deDRM. Once you can convert that deDRM'd ebook on a different format or, it should be safe to upload.
Ask for a refund in amazon.com/digitalorders/ and that's how you get your money back.

There's Epubor (you can get a cracked version) but I wouldn't trust it.
I haven't done this since I cancelled my credit cards and my government made it an absolute fucking nightmare to purchase shit on the Internet.

What are the best classic plots to rip off that always work? Im creating a nerdshit universe like lotr, harry potter, star wars, avatar the last airbender... and got a ton of ideas for the world itself(mainly in terms of tone and visuals) but no proper narrative. Escape?

have something be a part of characters daily life but by the end have it turn to have been contributing to destruction of the world. for example I read a manga where a main character was from a royal family and they all had keys of magic (each for a school of magic) . Mc lost control of his power and accidentally destroyed a town with his void key and before the manga went to shit the plot was about him finding away to reverse it. While the royals had most magic, most people could use low level magic and it was part of their daily life but it turned out magic was not part of the natural world, ancestors of the royal family brought the magic to save their people and it was meant to be a trade between 2 worlds were one would send magical energy to the other and in exchange the void key holder will pay for it all by sending them various stuff by using the void key but since all of that was forgotten the other side is dried out and is about to lose last of its life energy and its efforts is one of the reasons MCs key goes crazy from time to time. In the end mc must chose if he will let his world keep the magic for as long as possible or if he will give back all the magic and bet on technology

>Im sick and tired of protagonist who cant own up to their own desires and actions
what
it was more of a "killing everyone in this cave is secondary to my escape but now I MUST kill all these faggots". MC does show introspection and acknowledgement eventually that his revenge and rage is all he has. Unfortunately, MC makes reckless decisions and is saved by plot armor often but the writing overall is decent and flows well for what it is.
I'm in the last ~20% of the last book in the trilogy (that greentext took place during book #2) so I'm excited to start reading what I've been waiting for in regards to plot and greater implications.

No, nothing comes to mind, but it can be difficult to remember all the short fiction I've read. This certainly wouldn't be a a novel length story to tell.

PART V

It's not treason! It's not rebellion! It's simply to destroy THE DEEP STATE!

> preferred deck stacked wildly in her favor
This time Savine uses the power of the state to coerce Arinhorm. Concerned about the free market she is not. See someone else being successful? Take it from them. What a kleptocrat.

> circle fight
Might have the best solution on such a short notice. Rather convenient at least.

> [Clover] remembered he killed [Wonderful]
Occupational hazard. Logen accidentally killed friends. Clover intentionally did. Which is worse? Hard to say.

> Seff
Will her alleged Long Eye be of any use? I doubt it, but I'd prefer it was.

> Stour says he doesn't want to indiscriminately kill everyone
How generous.

> Savine's greed and ambition overwhelms any sense of rationality
Her supporting the rebellion may well have been have the worst decision of her life in terms of her own personal outcome.

> We have to do the right thing
Leo & Savine deserve each other. They're both self-absorbed idiots with a sense of superiority.

> Sure you aren't hers?
What did Rikke see about Zuri that would have her say that Zuri is more important than Savine?

> this child will change the world
Stallion Who Mounts the World

> Not eating her. Unless you got some plans I don't know about
The sexual humor continues.

> [Savine] is a golden serpent
By the end everyone will have their own animal.

> Nail x Rikke
No.

> Orso's toilet habits were precisely circumscribed, catalogued, and overseen
Same as an Amazon warehouse.

> engine, astonishing progress
The trains are arriving more quickly than I thought.
Was it really needed to show this event from so many perspectives? I think not.

> river-driven mill
Seems it's less prevalent than I thought it was.

> Sulfur
Does it matter he was openly an eater? Probably not. I had to laugh at his casual request afterwards.

> A Great Change
Unclear if The Great Change is COMMUNISM and the Weaver is Karl Marx.

> warning letter
I'm conflicted on who wrote it. They have such terrible operational security though that it could be more people than I would know.

> Orso and Leo off to meet Jappo
Orso has exceeded my expectations of actually doing anything since I wrote that he wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. I know it's silly, but if the map is accurate, Sipani is quite the distance from them, much more so for Leo, so it's basically plot magic that they arrive at the same time. I'm not going to even bother with saying anything about the internal chronology about this because it's clearly irrelevant. Their meeting where they couldn't recognize each other was silly but amusing, so overall I enjoyed it.

> Jurand's bird mask
ONE MIGHT SAY IT'S AN OWL.

> the old dealer
I'll pretend it was Friendly.

>> No.16395187

>>16395185

> Leo's negotiations are a complete failure due to his repressed sexuality and he also tells Jappo everything
This has got to be one of the stupidest rebellions I've read about and can remember.
Orso's negotiations go better than expected

I thought it was obvious that next would be Leo catching Jurand with another guy, but I certainly didn't expect it to be Glaward. Jurand probably should have stayed and threw himself at Jappo.

Pike becomes the new Arch Lector as I thought. Glokta's resignation sure was over quickly. I think he's become resolved and is going to make a major move later, but I don't know what it is. Well, if Vick is going over to Styria, why not bring along Glokta as well since he's dispensed with his responsibilities and may be otherwise declared a traitor and collateral damage, he may not have much choice. Easier to strike at Bayaz that way as well. It's not going to happen, but I can speculate about it.

> Tunny stared at him, "We're all doomed."
A wholly appropriate statement from my chosen mascot.

> Gorodets
Since it tends to be obvious with the signaling, I thought he was the closed council traitor at first due to his beard tugging.

> Already various "rebel" leaders have been captured
I really hope this was a honeypot operation to round up discontents and not that they are all so incompetent.

> life is the misery we endure between disappointments
What a summation.

> Vick turned in her brother
Well ok then

> Broad goes Bloody Nine lite
Sure, why not. Will he throw in the with Burners in the end? I don't know.

> Sulfur warns those in Angland the North.
Much like how "God works in mysterious ways" so do the Magi. I don't know what to make of this scene. Doesn't visit Rikke. Curious.

> Corleth
I guess she'll matter in some way or not.

> Leo's Landing
This is what came to mind:
> Commentators and observers, including Guaidó officials who initially contracted with Silvercorp, described the operation as amateurish, underfunded, poorly-planned, having little or no chance of success, and a suicide mission.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Gideon_(2020)

My expectations at this point for Rikke to "betray" Leo and Stour, have both of them be wiped out and she becomes the ruler of Angland and the North. That's both what I expect to happen and what I want to happen.

The Trouble With Peace - Joe Abercrombie
Part VI

I knew this battle was going to be a disaster, but it was even more so than expected. Also, probably overly long for my tastes.

> weather
Coincidence, meteorology, weather magic, or plot magic? I'd accept all expect for the first.

> Vick manipulation
It's almost beyond belief how she can always use her name and be who she is and just get anyway with doing whatever overall.

> Rikke
Did what I expected her to do. Nice. She wrote the letter as well which is good.

> Leo & Orso convo
Poor Leo, reality is ever trampling on his simplistic fantasy of the world.

> Have I made a terrible mistakes?
Yes, constantly, and this bit of self-reflection doesn't seem to have helped.

> Cannons
Certainly put to devastating use, mostly only on Orso's side though.
I think this rather makes the case for anti-war. Certainly grim and dark and without much humor as was in previous books.

> Hildi
Maybe not much at all then.

> Contrary to all logic, Orso felt no fear at all
Emotional magic from Sulfur being around or just how it is? I can never tell.

> Flag trap
Pity the fools.

> Stour
Had more sense than Leo at least, but that's a very low bar.

> Was it really only a year or two back?
Since the beginning of the first book. Makes sense with how much traveling over long distances there has been, but also doesn't feel that long by the reading at all.

> Nail x Rikke
Still no.

> quantity of death to satisfy
What if magic was powered by death?

> Isher
What a mysterious figure. Started this all then wasn't much involved, Savine didn't know anything about him, and disappeared. I'm not going to speculate.

> What a bloody waste
It really was, in so many ways.

> one of the most infamous defeats in Union history
A tragicomedy of errors.

> Savine & Orso convo
YOU'RE MY BROTHER! I STILL LOVE YOU! What fun.

> Stour betrayal
Nice. Highly enjoyable.

> Sulfur talking to Orso
Their ways are mysterious, but I'm going to go with that Bayaz wants Leo alive for some reason and Sulfur wanted Orso to defy him to make Orso look more powerful and Sulfur and others less so. Sulfur's seeming disapproval is just an act. When Sulfur was in the North he told Calder to flee, which he did, and he tried to stop Leo for Finree's sake. Such were the attempts on their behalf for their long term loyalty, or perhaps some other reason. Was this all to create a reputation for Orso? Was the entire rebellion orchestrated? I don't know.

> Pike is the Weaver
I didn't see that coming. To be seen what exactly Vick does. Seems the third book will be about this uprising. Ever constant is the turmoil.

This is probably the least I've liked any Vance book, which is a shame because because it contains some of his wittiest dialogue and most interesting societies. What really spoiled it for me is almost every notable antagonistic character in Araminta is dishonest to almost a pathological degree. Vance obviously loves these types of characters because they appear constantly in his work, but it's taken to an absurd degree in Araminta in which he has created an entire human sub-race of compulsively dishonest, evasive cheats. I usually don't mind these sorts of characters when their antics are appropriately foiled but this is rarely the case. Also while I'm whining Sessily's murder and its ultimate resolution felt incredibly cheap.

I read this yesterday and enjoyed it. The plot is pretty simple and mostly episodic, the main character is a human Veterinarian living in the kingdom of not!Sauron. Each chapter focuses on one veterinary case, starting with a dragon with an intestinal blockage caused by eating too many knights in shining armor. It's a parody novel but it doesn't really seem to crutch itself on being a parody, it's still enjoyable enough even without the humor which I appreciate.

Worth checking out if you're looking for some light reading. I got through it in about 2 hours.

I'm fine with StarWars knockoff. But I didn't find the book well written (only read the first one so perhaps he gets better as time goes on). Plot wise: there were no unexpected turns. A hyper obnoxious officer does not get shot and left for dead like anyone w sense would do. Author writes exposition dumps at times, I wish he had spent more time thinking about how to weave those dumps in more naturally. There's a PoV switch at the end suddenly which was kind of strange, but good since it finally used third person limited. Most of the books is in first person which I hate. So overall, I read it. And enjoyed parts of it, but not enough to seek out the 2nd book.

Dame Clytie might be the exception in this context; while she is a subversive, she does not hide the fact.

So what is with Harry Potter? I thought the point was that wizard society was concerned with keeping things they are instead of trying to be moral. If change would happen, would be from the outside as Muggle society documents and understands magic using technology faster than the MoM could cover it up. If high magic interferes with electronics, perhaps the reverse is true and electrical fields interfere with magic.

Also too much attention on women, Butcher should just for a book or two say to hell with all the womens feelings (that often influences the plot ALOT), get the fuck out of my my so I can act like some badass wizard and do some hardcore shit, but no, the moment it gets intense some woman shows from nowhere and has to tell everyone how she feels (or narrator does it for her).

Just don't mention it until it becomes relevant. Write him as a normal dude and if a dude comes along in the story that he would be attracted to, let the story reflect that. If not, just don't bring it up. If you wanted to be a bit more on the nose with it, you could include a homophobic character to call him a faggot or something, but it could descend into some pandering territory if you were to do something like have your gay dude beat the shit out of a bunch of guys calling him a fag. It might be a nice subversion to just have him be like "at least I'm fucking" and let it slide off him. But I think the most important takeaway is that it shouldn't be that big a deal and it should only come up sparingly and organically, just as romantic thoughts would for any other character.

I got around 200 pages into the first book before I gave in and read reviews to see if other people had the same problems that I did. Glad that I did because it seems like every positive review liked the stuff I hated. My biggest gripe was how self indulgent the author was with how he told the story. The particular scene where the main character is dragging his dad into town and the chapter ends with an implication that the next chapter will progress the story but instead he is still on that road dragging that guy into town. This seemed to happen constantly in the book where the authors inability to skip mundane bullshit ruined the pacing. I have seen the series referred to as the perfect example of the sunk cost fallacy but with your time rather than money.
