I had a goal to read 12 books by the end of the year and I can't even do that. Right now I'm at six.

Someone give me advice, or motivation, or just anything that could help.

There's plenty of time left in the year.
What are you trying to read rn?

Make a habit of reading an hour a day and next year you'll probably hit 30

Count short stories as books. It's what the users of goodreads and the people who claim to read more than 100 books in a year do. I think I saw someone on Goodreads once claim to have read 500 books in a year...yeah they were definitely counting short stories as "books"

this year i tried to work more than i sleep (i know the "w" word triggers people here, it's really just a quicker way to say "time spent being productive").

well, all told, year to date, i'm failing. in fact i've slept about 240 hours (!) more than i've worked. i'd have to work over 60 hours a week to catch up by the year's end.

so i've been accepting that it's pretty much impossible to catch up. but i still did a lot more than i otherwise would have without that goal -- thats still over 2000 hours of productive time under my belt no matter what.

so map it out. if it's really impossible for you to succeed, it's not the end of the world. but there are 80 days left. i think you have a chance.

Considering your goal is to read a set number of books, read small books. It will help you makes you feel good because you've reached your objective and it will build up the habit. I've just finished A Plunge into Real Estate by Calvino, it's short (150 pages) and enjoyable. Some other ideas:
>The kiss to the leper (Mauriac)
>Will O the Wisp (Drieu la rochelle)
>The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea (Mishima)
>Sturm (Junger)

Don't push too hard anon, no need to be a pseud bragging how many books per minute you read.

To adress your question, here are some suggestions:
-Try reading 30 minutes or an hour a day. It's not much, and as another anon pointed out, just by reading 30 min a day for an entire year, you'd end up reading (on average) 33 books in a year.
-Don't have much time to read? Identify situations where you can listen instead, and start an audiobook. You know, while driving, cooking, exercising, etc, all of them excellent times to listen to audiobooks.
-Don't have the one book you want to read at home? Lazy af so you don't want to go to the bookstore? Buy an ereader; that way you'll be able to buy/pirate any book you want and start it without moving. Don't listen to some fags here, ereaders don't give you eye strain, they last a really long time, and they're really comfy.
-Don't like what you're reading? That's ok, switch to another title, or start more than one at a time, to choose the most promising one from the list and go full steam on that one.
