Although most English departments require 2 years of a foreign language to graduate, most get an exception from whatever they learned in high school, provided they scored high enough on the AP exams. If they do end up taking a foreign language, they sleep through it because the classes are dumbed down and piss easy.
As the French say, you only begin to master your own tongue by studying another.
