Well, maybe it's true that cortazar just appeals to a young audience (definitely was the case for me) but we can't or we shouldn't close our eyes to the value of that, from my own experiences I can say that Cortazar's works opened the door of fantasy/sci fi literature to me (at age 16~) after that and probly becouse of that I discovered the works of kafka, Asimov, Harlam ellison and most important (at least for me since he's my fav author) Lovacraft. So his value as a starting point for youth to fantasy literaty at least in Latam (instead of the commom and usually non-interting ones like Juan bosh [not all the time but certainly most of the books chosen by schools]) is irrefutable from my pov.

Sorry, I hope everyone understood that I meant Latin american.

And about thoses author been better than cortazar my point was (or what I expected it to be) that due to the actual state of young people and their disinterested in literature, a author who keeps a decent level of complexity/quality in his works and a realistic view of the normal reader understanding at the same time is necessary and hard to find. You can say that Borges is better than cortazar but his are (at least most of them) too complex even confusing for a young audience even though its quality is irrefutable and there is where the importance of someone like cortazar is; something that can be use as a starting gate for a more leveled literature without geting the reader bored in the procest which right now should be a big concern to schools/educators. In that sence was what I referred to cortazar as the better one for the job but still it can be that I'm not taking into account others that I don't know about and therefore be completely/partially wrong.

Latin America is a ridiculous (and French) concept.
You can call it Iberian America if you want. It would make more sense. You can also call it "Spanish America" and "Portuguese America".

And who cares about young people? What do the preferences of young people have to do with literary merit?
I read Borges at 14 years old and fell in love with him instantly. It has nothing to do with age. It has to do with cultural background. Borges didn't write for people who don't read books. You need to have read at least Homer, the Bible and a history of philosophy before reading Borges, which I did.

Also, the vast majority of "educators" should stay away from literature.
