Jason is the only likeable character in the entire book.

Haven't read the book. But I do have a friend named Jason. Asian fella, nice guy, businessman real stand up guy. Wouldn't call him the only likeable guy in my life, though. Maybe this Jason is similar? I dunno. Gonna read this book soon. One of these days. Liked the book about the casket and the horse and the fish.

What do you mean by likeable? What did Benjy do to you?

Whoa, that's pretty edgy bro

Books aren't valued on how "nice" the characters are.

I cant see how anyone can find him likable.

Jason? He was a massive prick, literally beats up poor Benjy for no reason at all. Dilsey was the only character who was likeable.

What about Quentin?

>> No.16801619

Doesn't he beat him up as a child though? Adult Jason is a sympathetic character, in a sort of downtrodden, rage-filled provider way. He's the neglected child in a burgeoning household, where everything's been signed away and he gets to watch his siblings basically waste it away. I don't think he's an upright character, but his character is a lot more nuanced than being "a massive prick".

This is true, he isn't simply a massive prick, but the majority of his actions aren't what I would call "good deeds."
>>16801288
Quentin wasn't likeable to me at all. I can't get past the killing himself over not being able to bang his sister. Not a likeable trait

only children care about "likable" characters

Quentin was even more retarded than Benjy, even his thought process. Easily the worst character in the book.

Are you guys forgetting Absalom, Absalom? Calling Quentin the worst character in the book (or the Yoknapatawpha cycle) is like saying Caroline was the anchor of the family.

I liked Benjy

He didn't kill himself because he wanted to bang his sister he killed himself because he wasn't able to restore his family's honor and pussied out when he confronted Dalton. Incest was a lie he made up to try and share Caddy's burden.

Quentin becomes a much more interesting character after reading Absalom, Absalom!. The Henry, Judith, Charles Bon story and his knowledge of it changes what you think of his actions in TSATF
