This exact version. I see people try to read the book without annotations and they miss what the whole novel is about. Just a nice book, nice story and the annotations meant i learned a lot about regency era society.

Not my favorite book of all time, because I don't think I have one. But I'll mention 'The Star Diaries' by Stanislaw Lem, because his sci-fi short stories always make me laugh and feel warm and happy inside. They're top comfy.

>>16829436
>what the whole novel is about.
What's it about? Personally I wasn't that interested in getting to know more about upper-class life during that period, there's tons of books that deliver that well. What made P&P stand out to me was the phenomenal psychological portraits she painted, and the technical aspects of the book: when you know what happens at about the middle of the book it changes pace and tone dramatically.

A man of good taste, who was likely drawn to the book's more Humanistic themes (as well as to the fact that its an obvious love-letter to storytelling in general). However, you think that the book fell apart slightly in the last third, but that it was redeemed by the last fifty pages or so.

It's my favorite book as well, godspeed anon

Reading Les RM was probably the biggest enjoyment I've ever had related to literature (so far). This book being the last one, it takes on purpose many elements from the previous ones (the same description of fire for example) and directly mentions the characters. The writing has a surprising amount of philosophy to it, but keeps a bit of misery Zola loves to do.
The book as a whole feels very personal to me, but more importantly to Zola, because I'm certain Pascal is supposed to represent him to a degree.

Yes.
There is an entire chapter on the JFK assassination that will make some people butthurt, but it is completely politics free and only looks at it from the perspective of a sniper. Which I thought was very interesting (along with the rest of the book, obviously).
There is also a lot of how-to along with the historical narrative, that could actually teach you pretty advanced strategies and techniques on sniping.
