What’s a good first book for a brainlet to get into reading with?

Literally read anything. Pick up anything. My first book was The Book of Disquiet. I recommend the last book I read The World of Yesterday by Zweig.

It depends on where you want to go in regards to reading. Is you don't know yet, then I suggest A Song of Ice and Fire.

Read Swiss Family Robinson!
No one ever takes my advice, and it's such a good, comfy fucking read! A pious family gets shipwrecked on an island, and they build a sweet-ass tree house and go on awesome island adventures, while their father teaches them important lessons about life, religion and science. It's so good! Read it, or I'm gonna get mad and cry really hard about it.

I heard that you're supposed to ignore your inner voice that reads everything aloud because it slows you down. They also recommend following the words with your finger. Should I adopt this way of reading?

Read whatever Buddhist text they have at your local library! The Buddhists are very simple and useful and extremely comfy.

Yeah, this is something I have always had issues with. Normally I'm fine but when I get tired I start doing that and I stop actually understanding the text and start just reading it without understanding it.
