Is there any reason why people don't read encyclopedias? they're filled with info and u can become smart reading it

Sometimes they aren't very good but are still fun to read. I got one called The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Mythology, and it's not complete or necessarily accurate but it cost £5 and told me all kinds of stories the authors might have potentially misheard.
